ORUTerry
COLLEGE BASEBALL: ORU in pursuit of another title By GLENN HIBDON World Sports Writer 4/4/2008 (excerpt) Oral Roberts University opens its quest for an 11th straight Summit League championship, while Oklahoma and Oklahoma State try to advance in Big 12 Conference play during a busy baseball weekend. North Dakota State will visit J.L. Johnson Stadium, a site where the Golden Eagles have lost just 11 times in league play in the last eight years. The Bison (6-11) are coming off four consecutive losses at Wichita State after the No. 8 Shockers enjoyed a 37-10 scoring advantage. ORU was dealt a 10-8 setback at WSU on Wednesday. North Dakota State visits Tulsa with some individual achievements in mind. Kole Zimmerman leads with a .339 batting average and 42 doubles, two behind school career leader Matt Mann. Pitcher Jake Laber (0-3) is searching for his 39th career start, a new Bison record, and will probably join Shane Bushland, the staff ace with a 3-0 record and a 1.96 earned run average.......... tmh8286
The Bison are allowing opponents a .390 batting average and will face a stiff challenge from ORU senior outfielder Brendan Duffy, the Summit League's co-player of the week who batted .583 with seven hits in a three-game sweep of BYU last week. Duff is getting his bat going again - I believe he led the conference in batting average last season, but had gotten off to a little slower start this year. Can't beat .583 last weekend, though! Let's hope he keeps it up. Duffy isn't our only hot bat, though. BVK, Groth, Genao, Petralli, Minissale, and Notaro have all been pretty good at the plate lately.
