New recruit....

ORUTerry

Recommended Posts

I heard from a friend of mine (non-ORU) that ORU is recruiting a kid named Justin Robinson out of Edmond Memorial high school. According to this source, Robinson is a 6'2" guard with decent shooting and dribbling skills and is athletic. That just about describes every high school guard in the country. I will see what else I can find out about this kid.

Someone mentioned last night in the chat room that we lost out on the juco guard.

With the loss of five scholarship players (Michalec, Bluitt, Fowlkes, Owens and Riouse) and the previous signing of Gaines, King and Hazell - that leaves us with two available slots for recruits in the Spring.

Memorial gets swept by Norman

JEFF LUCAS

The Edmond Sun

Both the Edmond Memorial and Norman boys and girls basketball teams entered Tuesday night with perfect 2-0 records.

But, by the end of the night, it was each Memorial team which had a loss.

The Lady Bulldogs went into Tuesday night?s game ranked eighth in the state, but were outmatched by No. 1 Norman, 47-50.

Norman 65, Edmond Memorial 64 (boys)

In the boys game, it also came down to the finals seconds, but in the end the Bulldogs lost to the undefeated Tigers, 65-64.

?That is a tough, early-season loss,? said head coach Rob Hunt. ?You hate to lose on your home court, you hate to lose ? period. Norman played a great game tonight.?

Memorial senior Justin Robinson led his team in scoring with 25 points, along with senior Antonio Triplett, who scored 10. It was a close game in the first quarter, as Norman had a four-point lead.

?Justin is a great player, he has lot of potential,? said Hunt.

Memorial went into the half down by only two points after a pair of three?s from senior Mitch Martin and Robinson. Martin scored five of his nine points in the second quarter.

In the second half, Memorial had a prayer answered when Norman junior Ryan Broyles ? who had scored 21 points ? fouled out on a double technical. At the end of the period, it was a tie ball game and both teams were looking to keep their records perfect.

The Bulldogs had an off night at the free-throw line, hitting only 19-of-37.

?We missed 18 free throws tonight,? said Hunt.

It wasn?t until the final seconds that the game was decided. With only 2.9 seconds left on the clock and down by one point, the Bulldogs inbounded the ball from underneath their own goal to Robinson in the paint. With a final-second turnaround jumper, he missed it.

?If it had just trickled in, it would of been a whole different locker room,? said Hunt about the final shot in his first home loss this season.

Not to knock on this recruit, but what about all the combo guards out there. The main reason Tutt is having trouble getting his shot off now is his height (or lack thereof). I thought we were through with the smaller shooting guards when we starting getting guards with a lil height like Ehambe and Hazel, and point guards like Liberty. The coaches are great evaluators of talent so who knows. All the taller shooting guards (6'4 and up) might be all gone.

Not sure, but my friend thought that Justin Robinson was 6'2". He also said that the kid is a complete player - ball handler, defender, etc. and could play the point or shooting guard position.

A versatile shooting guard could definitely be an asset. Especially after what happened this year with Bluitt having to sit during most of our road trip. That at least cost us the Utah State game.

It would not break the coaches hearts if the juco guard went somewhere else. It is not the size of the shooting guard it is getting off the ground when you shoot and quickness of your release. It seems Ken shoots more of a set shot but he has a nice release just not real quick with it. He should get better looks now in conference. Got to see the OU game and less turnovers at the end and they would have won. That would have been huge. Both USC and Marquette are playing great right now so that should help the RIP rating at the end

That's an unfortunate choice of typo, no?
