ORUTerry
Eagles adjust to foe's height STEPHEN HOLMAN / Tulsa World ORU’s Rachel Watman shoots in front of IUPUI’s Julia Whitted during Tuesday’s game. (excerpt) By MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer 3/12/2008 ORU's transition game combats IUPUI's Whitted. The Oral Roberts women threw almost as many football passes as they did bounce passes in Tuesday's 66-53 win over Indiana-Purdue Indianapolis in the Summit League basketball final. It's impossible to move a mountain. IUPUI's 6-foot-5 Julia Whitted dominated the tournament for three days, scoring 57 points to go with 40 rebounds and 15 blocked shots. The Golden Eagles didn't try to move her. They tried to leave her behind. They ran the floor like wide receivers trying to get deep down the field...... tmh8286
Whitted was like a Mac truck in the middle. She played with about that much athleticism and that much finesse. After watching her play for three days I really and truly felt that there was some sort of conspiracy by the league to keep her in the game. She was like a bull in a china shop, hacking, pushing, pulling, holding, doing absolutely every illegal move you could imagine, but wasn't called for it. She was getting one or two fouls per game, when she should have fouled OUT within the first five minutes. I really don't understand why she was allowed to get away with what she did. Big GUYS in the middle get called for all sorts of fouls, but like Kirby York in Rio Grande, Julia's nickname should be Ramrod, Wreckage and Ruin.
