ORUTerry
Eagles dismantle T-Birds By LYNN JACOBSEN World Sports Writer 2/26/2008 Last Modified: 2/26/2008 2:01 AM (excerpt) Oral Roberts has battled injuries all season long. Now they are healthy. And if Monday's 71-42 thrashing of Southern Utah is any indication, Summit League opponents had better watch out with the conference tournament just 12 days away. "Our opponents in the Summit will see this and make their own judgment," ORU coach Jerry Finkbeiner said. "It's been such a long haul. I've never had a season like this with the travel adversity, injuries and sickness. We've been hit from all angles, all year long..... tmh8286
ORU now is in a three way tie for third place, and it's conceivable that they could end up tied for first. I haven't sorted through the details to figure out all seedings, but I assume second place WIU will end up with first seed (since SDSU won't be playing in the tournament). However, if WIU loses on the road to IUPUI, a possibility, and Oakland wins both of their games on the road to SUU and UMKC, a distinct possibility, then they end up with equivalent 12-6 records, and Oakland gets first seed by way of head to head competition (by their sweep of WIU). ORU will have to sweep their road trip, including a win against league-leading SDSU, which is a tall order, in order to fit into this calculation. But IF they did, and the above occurred, then I THINK ORU ends up with third seed, although it's complicated enough that I'm not entirely positive without putting it down on paper. I guess we'll sort it all out after this weekend . . .
