Bogus Smith
ORU Notebook: One-man band by: MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer Even without a lot of help from his teammates, Southern Utah junior forward Geoff Payne almost personally wore out the Golden Eagles while scoring a career-high 35 points. "He's a tough matchup and he constantly moves," ORU junior forward Marcus Lewis said. "You never see back-to-back plays where he's in the same spot. They run a lot of plays and almost everything's geared for him. Wherever he is, that's where the play's going most of the time," Lewis said. Payne made 13-of-18 from the field and 9-of-12 from the foul line. His teammates were a collective 11-of-33 from the field, and only three other Thunderbirds scored. David Marek scored 13 points and Tyler Quinney and Cris Hoopes had seven each. Shooting blanks: ORU was back to struggling from behind the arc against Southern Utah, hitting a paltry 3-of-13. The three 3-pointers tied a season low from the Feb. 2 Centenary game. Moses Ehambe, who had a blazing 17-of-27 stretch while scoring 80 points over the previous three games, was 0-of-3 from behind the arc and Robert Jarvis was 0-of-5. Going for 20: A win over visiting Missouri-Kansas City on Thursday night would give the Eagles their fourth straight 20-win season under head coach Scott Sutton. It's the most consecutive 20-win seasons since legendary former head coach Ken Trickey had eight straight during the 1969-77 seasons. White spaces: ORU officials hope to white out the Mabee Center for Saturday's nationally televised BracketBusters game with Creighton, much as they did for last year's game against Utah State. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/extra/ ... puUFs81327
