Jarvis Named Summit League January Athlete of the Month

ELMHURST, Ill. - Oral Roberts basketball player Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) and IPFW tennis player Amy Recht (Fort Wayne, Ind.) have been named The Summit League Athletes of the Month for January.

Jarvis earns the Men’s Athlete of the Month honors after leading his team to a perfect 7-0 record and averaging 18.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He also shot 58 percent from the field and 56 percent from three-point range on the month, well above his season averages of 44 and 45 percent, respectively. The nation’s top scoring sixth man, Jarvis scored a career-high 34 points, including 23 in the second half, on 9-of-14 shooting in an 80-75 win at Southern Utah. He also scored 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting in a 66-60 win at Oakland, 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a 64-63 win over IUPUI and 19 points in a 71-62 overtime win at Centenary, including six of ORU’s nine points in overtime.

Recht garners Women’s Athlete of the Month accolades after going undefeated during the month of January. The freshman posted a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles, taking all of her matches in straight sets. She and partner Sachi Janek also went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles during the month. In a loss to Evansville, Recht was the only IPFW player to record a singles victory. Against Cleveland State, she was one of two Mastodons to post singles wins. The Summit League Athlete of the Week for Jan. 29, Recht is a perfect 7-0 on the year.
