Dr. Cornelius
Wow! This is an honor for Coach and should help recruiting as well! Team USA, coached by Rob Walton, will play in FISU games. Oral Roberts University baseball coach Rob Walton has been chosen head coach of the USA Baseball national team for the 2008 International University Sports Federation games. "It's a shock, a little bit, but certainly an honor," Walton said. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/articl ... hTeam03342
Bogus Smith
This is a great honor for our Coach and will be super publicity for the University. Not everyone gets to lead our national baseball team into battle with international baseball programs and Rob has done a great job of positioning himself to attain this honor. Even Sunny Golloway (a USA Baseball assistant in the late 90's while still at ORU) couldn't convince the USA Baseball leadership to appoint him to this position! This will be very taxing on Rob as he goes directly from the College Baseball World Series (after we win the Super Regional) into an international baseball schedule. He will have to lean on Folmar, Hickman, Neill and Leu to carry a much bigger load in order for Rob to handle this duty. This should help build our entire coaching staff to become better teachers, evaluators and administrators. I don't doubt that this can be a real coup for the ORU baseball program. Congratulations, Rob!!
Irish333
Rob Walton - an incredible individual. What a blessing to have him run our team! Our players will be able to say that they played under the guidance of this great coach! That is an honor all by itself! Gotta Love It! Cletus
My congratulations for Coach Walton, too. A few years ago I watched ORU on ESPN in the regionals play Clemson and they gave the tigers a scare right up until the end. Great to see the ORU sports teams doing so well! Bogus Smith
Team USA Tabs Walton (excerpt) Posted Dec. 7, 2007 2:50 pm by Aaron Fitt From Mike Weathers to Steve Smith, Mike Gillespie to Ray Tanner, USA Baseball has a tradition of bringing back former collegiate national team assistants to serve as the head coach in a future summer. In keeping with that practice, Oral Roberts coach Rob Walton was named head coach of Team USA for 2008. Walton served as the pitching coach for the team in 2005. "I?m really humbled and feel very privileged to be chosen as the field manager," Walton said. "This is an opportunity to represent our country and to coach some of the best players in college baseball." http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=
