With Major League Baseball at the All-Star, several Oral Roberts University minor leaguers have also reached the mid-way point of their respective seasons. Currently there are 13 former ORU baseball players playing at all levels within organized minor league baseball. Below is a capsule look at where they are on the organizational ladder and, more importantly, how they are performing. Player Capsules Doug Bernier, 2B, Colorado Springs Sky Sox - Bernier is on the brink of making the Colorado Rockies big league club as the infielder is hitting .319 with two home runs and 16 RBI. Bernier is hitting .409 in the last 10 games for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with a home run and four RBI. Michael Hollimon, SS, Erie SeaWolves - A one year starter at ORU after transferring from Texas, Hollimon continues to make strides in his third year in the minors. Hollimon is hitting at a .273 clip with eight home runs, 21 doubles, five triples, and 52 RBI. The 16th round draft pick in 2005 ranks in the top three on the Erie SeaWolves in hits, doubles, triples, RBI, and walks. Hollimon hit at a scorching pace of .343 in the month of June with five home runs and 26 RBI. Stephen Holm, C, Connecticut Defenders - A 17th round draft pick in 2001, catcher Holm is currently with the Connecticut Defenders (AA) in the Eastern League. Holm has played in 57 games behind the dish and has a .297 average with seven home runs and 23 RBI. Holm has been dialed in from the plate the last 10 games, hitting at a .364 clip with two home runs and six RBI. Tim Torres, SS, Lexington Legends - The former standout has split time with the two Houston Astros Class A organizations and is batting a combined .316 with nine home runs and 37 RBI. Torres has 61 hits with 15 doubles, 42 walks, and has stolen 15 bases. David Castillo, C, Stockton Ports - Castillo has been up and down in the Oakland Athletics organization. The 7th round draft pick in 2003 played in five games with the Sacramento River Cats (AAA) and one game with the Midland RockHounds (AA) but has spent most of his time in the two Class A organizations. Overall this season, Castillo is batting .241 with three home runs and 15 RBI. Castillo has hit two home runs and has driven in six runs in the last 10 games. Andy Bouchie, C, West Virginia Power - Bouchie, the 2006 Mid-Continent Conference Newcomer of the Year, has played in 51 games for the West Virginia Power hitting .247 with five home runs and knocking in 31 RBI. Sean Jarrett, RHP, Asheville Tourists - Jarrett, the Colorado Rockies 20th round selection in 2006, was 0-1 with a 1.15 ERA in 15 games played with the Asheville Tourists before an arm injury cut his season short. Chance Chapman, RHP, Williamsport Crosscutters - Chapman is off to a great start with the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies Class A-Short Season affiliate), producing a 3-0 record with a 2.25 ERA in 20.0 innings pitched. The righty has won his last three starts while just giving up two runs in the last 17.0 innings. Erik Crichton, RHP, Oneonta Tigers - Crichton, who plays for the Oneonta Tigers (Class A-Short Season), is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in eight relief appearances. The right-hander has fanned 14 batters in 12.0 innings of work. Jeremy Hefner, RHP, Eugene Emeralds - Hefner, the highest Golden Eagle draft pick since 1998, has a microscopic 0.73 ERA in 12.1 innings of work for the Eugene Emeralds. In his last outing on July 8, Hefner struck out eight batters in 3.0 innings of relief. Chad Rothford, 1B, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes - Rothford, a 42nd round pick by the San Francisco Giants, is third on the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Class A-Short Season) with a .300 batting average. Rothford has been swinging a hot bat as of late, hitting at a .344 clip with one home run and five RBI in the last 10 games. - Jake Kahaulelio, the Cincinnati Reds 20th round selection, has not appeared in any games yet due to an injury sustained during preseason workouts in June. - Brian Aguailar, has been injured all season but is on the Tri-City Dust Devils (Colorado Rockies Class A-Short Season) roster.
