ORU's Chapman Earns All-America Honors

Oral Roberts' Chance Chapman has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-America third-team, the organization announced on Monday.

Chapman, who was recently drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the eighth round as the 263rd overall pick, signed with the Class A Short-Season Williamsport Crosscutters. The Crosscutters begin their season on June 19 in the New York-Penn League.

Chapman enjoyed a stellar senior season, also earning second-team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball. The senior posted an 8-1 record with a 1.34 ERA, striking out 127 batters and walking just 28 in 94.0 innings. Opposing hitters batted just .198 against him.

ORU's career ERA leader (1.41), Chapman was named Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-Mid-Con, in addition to being named to the ABCA All-Midwest Region first team.

A native of Paso Robles, Calif., Chapman tied a school record of 17 strikeouts in a game on March 27 against then-No. 7 Arkansas. The hurler then topped that performance with a 19-strikeout game against Mid-Con foe Centenary on May 11. The right-hander was named Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week for both performances by Collegiate Baseball.
