IUPUI's Womens Basketball team has been selected to play Michigan State in the Pre-Season WNIT Tournment.  Under the new format, the team is guaranteed three games in the Tournament (probably in order to provide for better scheduling).  It looks like the second game will be with either Evansville or Marshall.  It's good to see a Summit League team involved in the Tournament in some way.

June 13, 2007 ? The 16-team bracket for the 2007 Preseason Women?s National Invitation Tournament was announced today.

Teams that will host first-round games are Maryland, LSU, Michigan State, Notre Dame, TCU, Western Kentucky, Delaware and Evansville.

The prestigious women?s college basketball tournament features a new format this fall, as it moves from single elimination to a three-game guarantee.  Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 16-17.

The event opens Friday, Nov. 9 with all first-round games. Second-round games will be played on Nov. 11-13, semifinals will be Nov. 14-15 and the championship is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 18.  All games are played on home campuses, which are determined after each round.

The Preseason WNIT field includes nine teams that played in the postseason last season, highlighted by LSU?s Final Four finish.  Delaware, Delaware State, LSU, Maryland, Michigan State, Notre Dame and TCU played in the NCAA Tournament, and East Tennessee State and Western Kentucky advanced to the Postseason WNIT field.  They will be joined by Evansville, IUPUI, Marshall, Miami ( Ohio ), Princeton, Radford, and Samford in this fall?s Preseason WNIT.

Nine teams will play in the Preseason WNIT for the first time in their school history: Delaware State, ETSU, IUPUI, LSU, Marshall, Michigan State, Princeton, Radford and Samford.

In last year?s Preseason WNIT, Purdue defeated Baylor and went on to a 31-6 season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament?s Elite Eight round.
