Chapman Earns All-America Accolades

TULSA, Okla. ? Oral Roberts University?s Chance Chapman has been named to the Louisville Slugger All-American second-team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Wednesday.

The senior earns honors as a starting pitcher going 8-1 with a 1.23 ERA while striking out 121 batters in 88.0 innings of work. Chapman, who started the year as a reliever, was converted to starter halfway through the season and went 7-1 in his eight starts.

Chapman was named Mid-Continent Conference Pitcher of the Year and garnered first-team All-Mid-Con honors for the second consecutive year. The hurler was named Mid-Con?s Player of the Week three different occasions during the 2007 season.

Chapman ranks third nationally in both ERA (1.23) and strikeouts per nine innings (12.4) while ranking 15th in total strikeouts (121).

A native of Paso Robles, Calif., Chapman tied a school record of 17 strikeouts in a game on March 27 against then-No. 7 Arkansas. The right-hander then topped that performance with a 19 strikeout game against Mid-Continent Conference foe Centenary on May 11. The right-hander was named Louisville Slugger?s National Player of the Week for both performances by Collegiate Baseball.

Chapman becomes the 12th ORU baseball player to receive second-team All-American honors and 34th player to earn All-American honors.

No. 24 ORU (40-15) starts NCAA Regional play on Friday at 1 p.m. against Arizona in the Wichita Regional.
