Non-Conference Opponents in the NCAA Tournament

Obviously, we all know how strong our non-conference was, but how about this: entering the last day before the field of 64 is announced, as many as nine of our 12 non-confernece opponents will be playing ball come June.   Not shabby at all.

Definitely In:

Arkansas (41-18) - SEC title game against Vanderbilt (50-11).

Baylor (34-24) playing Texas A&M for Big 12 title.

Texas (44-15) went 2-1 at Big 12 tournament, missing out on the championship game.

TCU (46-12) won MWC Tournament with 9-8 victory over BYU in title game.

Wichita State (49-19) rallied through the losers bracket before falling to Creighton in extra innings during MVC championship game.  The Shockers had a 9-6 going into the bottom of the 11th before losing 10-9 in 12.

Bethune-Cookman (33-25) won MEAC regular-season and conference crowns.

Long Beach State (36-18) finished third in the Big West standings (no tournament).

Maybe In:

Penn State (31-25) finished third in the Big 10 and tomorrow is playing Minnesota in the conference semifinals.

California (29-25) finished fourth in the Pac 10 standings (no tournament).

Definitely Out:

Kansas (28-30) missed Big 12 tournament by one game.

Missouri State (23-34) went 1-2 at MVC Tournament.

Central Arkansas (21-32) missed out on Southland Conference Tournament.

Great info, Mickey - it really shows the strength of our scheduling.

Penn State loses to Minnesota in 11 innings - effectively dropping them out of the NCAA tourney.

Should have been TEN, if gutless Frank Anderson at OSU had allowed us to play the game we had rained out against them.

I hope we somehow draw them again in the regionals - that weasel really gets under my skin.
