Although it almost went unnoticed by us message-board types, Chance Chapman wasn't the only one setting records this weekend.  While we were busy keeping track of the goings-on at J.L. Johnson, Pamela Ontiveros was busy setting her own records.  By advancing out of regional play she became the first women's golfer in ORU history to play in the NCAA Golf Championship.  Congratulations Pamela!  We're very proud of you.  Best of luck at Daytona Beach:

Ontiveros Advances to NCAA Championships; ORU Finishes 19th

ANN ARBOR, Mich.?It wasn?t perfect, but Pamela Ontiveros (Torreon, Mexico) will take a history-making performance any way she can get it.

Ontiveros, an Oral Roberts University junior, shot a four-over par 75 in Saturday?s final round at the NCAA Central Regional, earning a spot in next weekend?s NCAA Championships, moving on as one of the top two individuals not on the top eight advancing teams. She becomes the first player in ORU women?s golf history to advance out of regional play.

Ontiveros finished the tournament at plus-5 218, finishing tied for 9th with TCU?s Elin Emmanuelsson. Ontiveros now advances to the NCAA Championships next weekend in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Ontiveros succeeded despite difficult conditions. In addition to 20-mile and hour winds, she started bogey-par-double bogey, birdied number five but recorded consecutive bogeys on seven and eight and finished the front nine at 5-over. But she steadied herself on the back nine, finishing with 10 straight pars to make school history.

?It was the best nine pars on the back side I?ve ever seen,? said head coach Lance Watson. ?Once she settled down, she played great. She handled the conditions and tough pin placements pretty well. She?s been ranked among the top players in the country all year, and she showed why this weekend.?

The Golden Eagles finished 19th out of 21 teams at the regional. Christy Carter shot 84 on Saturday and finished tied for 67th at plus-22. Jessica Gibson shot 87 in the final round to finish 95th. Megan O?Connell finished 100th and Ashley Mashunkashey ended the tournament 102nd.
