ORUTerry Posted May 12, 2007 Share Posted May 12, 2007 ORU's Chapman sets mark with 19 strikeouts by Staff Reports 5/12/2007 Chance Chapman broke the school record with 19 strikeouts as Oral Roberts defeated Centenary 12-1 in Mid-Continent Conference action Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium. Chapman only allowed three hits and one run in his first complete game of the season. The right-hander broke his own school record, which he tied on March 17 against Arkansas with 17 strikeouts. Centenary (23-25 overall and 6-7 in Mid-Con) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and held the lead until the Golden Eagles scored four runs in the fourth for a 4-1 advantage. ORU (30-15 overall, 12-1 Mid-Con) scored four runs in each the seventh and the eighth to stretch the Golden Eagles' lead to 12-1. Brian Van Kirk went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to pace the Golden Eagles' attack. Kelly Minissale, Pat Warfle and Carter McQuigg also knocked in two runs for Oral Roberts. Every batter in the starting line-up for the Golden Eagles had at least one hit as ORU pounded out 16. The Golden Eagles improved to 21-2 at home and have won the 15 of their last 16 games. Centenary used five different pitchers with Will Kaage (2-6) taking the loss.
