tmh8286
Brendan Duffy's eighteen game hitting streak ended last night. He had five at bats, was walked twice, struck out once. He scored the go-ahead run on Kelly Minissale's single in the top of the ninth, but no hits. Too bad for him.
tmh8286
Can some of you baseball junkies help me understand Duffy's stats last night? The official box score says Duff had two at bats. The play by play says he walked twice, struck out looking once, laid down a sacrifice bunt, and grounded out to second. Is the box score in error (saying 2 AB's), or do some of his times at the plate not count as at bats? I can see where the walks might not count, but that's still not enough to make up the difference. Does the sac bunt not count either? Inquiring minds want to know.
mickeyb
You got it, tmh, walks and sacrifices (bunts and flies) do not count as official at bats.
TrueBlue82
As Mickey says, walks and sacrifices don't count as official at-bats. This makes sense, as taking an action to support your team (work the pitcher for a walk or lay down a sacrifice to advance the runner) shouldn't dilute your batting average (hits/at bats). You'll get this baseball thing figured out soon enough, Doc!
