tmh8286
Sutton could be candidate for WSU job By MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer 4/10/2007 Link The college basketball coaching carousel is still spinning, and Oral Roberts head coach Scott Sutton has been mentioned for another job. CBS Sportsline reported Monday that Sutton is one of four candidates to replace Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon if he leaves. Sportsline reported Turgeon will be named Tuesday as Texas A&M's new head coach. Last week, Sutton was rumored as a candidate to replace Dana Altman at Creighton -- until Altman backed out after one day as Arkansas' new coach and returned to the Bluejays. Sutton, 36, did not return calls placed to his cell phone Monday. There are at least three reasons why he might consider the Wichita State job: 1) More money. He would likely double or triple his salary from an estimated $250,000 package at ORU. Turgeon signed a contract extension last year boosting his base salary to $750,000 per year through the 2016 season, according to the Wichita Eagle; 2) Proximity. Family is important to Sutton. In Wichita, he would have his parents a little more than two hours away in Stillwater and his wife's parents about three hours away in Tulsa; 3) Community interest. WSU drew capacity crowds of 10,478 to each of its 15 home games last season. Sutton, 144-102 in eight ORU seasons, is 2-0 against the Shockers.
