Younger leads Oral Roberts to a win over Bethune-Cookman.

Chris Ashman and Chance Chapman had solid performances from the mound and Adam Younger drove in the winning run as Oral Roberts University defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Younger drove in Pat Warfle in the seventh inning on a single to left field giving ORU (14-12) a 3-2 lead.

Warfle led off the inning by reaching base after being hit by BCC's Hiram Burgos. David Genao advanced Warfle into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Younger followed Genao with a single to center field to score Warfle.

Chapman relieved Ashman in the eighth and retired the final out with Bethune-Cookman having runners at the corners. The righthander struck out two Wildcats in the ninth and forced Orlando Bacon to ground out to seal the game to earn his fourth save.

Ashman improved to 2-3 on the year with the win as the senior righthander struck out three while scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs in 7 2/3 innings.

ORU took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat. Brendan Duffy walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelly Minissale. Duffy stole third and scored on a Jake Kahaulelio sacrifice fly.

The Wildcats would score a run in the fourth inning to knot the score at 1-1. Angel Negron scored after Neil Jones reached on a fielder's choice.

Chad Rothford led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field to put the Golden Eagles back on top, 2-1. It was Rothford's team-leading seventh home run this season.

Younger led the Golden Eagle attack going 2-for-3. The junior went 6-for-9 (.667) with one home run, one double, and three RBI in the series.

Van Kirk also went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk as ORU improved to 12-1 at J.L. Johnson Stadium this year.

ORU returns to action on Tuesday hosting regional power Wichita State at 7:06 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

I think the story of this weekend was that Adam Younger broke out of his batting slump and proved to be the difference-maker all weekend, as the article points out.  Got to hand it to Geoff Haxton - he called it on the radio during the first game on Saturday.  He said he thought Younger was going to break out of his slump this weekend, and he nailed it.

Next one due, David Genao (batting average  .143).

The other big story on Saturday was pulling Blevins out of mothballs and clearing the cobwebs off his vocal cords for ONE GLORIOUS INNING of broadcasting.  He hasn't lost his touch . . .
