He was at West Virginia for one year. Previous to that, he served at Nevada and UCLA. Barnett is originally from Indiana and played for the Hoosiers from 2009-12.

From Kory's press release about his WVU hiring:

“We are thrilled to have Kory join our basketball staff as he is one of the great, bright young coaches in college basketball,” DeVries said in a press release. “He has worked his way up during his career and really did a great job at Nevada, especially working with their defense and having them ranked at the top nationally. Kory is an incredible person and family man.”

He was the video coordinator (4 years) and DoBO (2 years) at UCLA during Alford's time there before following him to Nevada for five years.  Same track of progression as ACSP between Baylor and ORU.  Did we replace Sam with Kory?

A few major differences: Patterson is from the most successful coaching tree in modern college basketball era. Patterson has deep ties to Texas and Oklahoma. Patterson has deep ties internationally. Patterson has deep connections with these current players. Patterson has already won at ORU.

But i see what you mean…

Idk that we should tout Patterson’s recruiting skills. On court performance isn’t 100% coaching.

Barnett may have been the only coach that was willing to keep ACSP on at the ACSP position.  That will be interesting to see.

Are you saying that we made retention of Patterson a requirement of employment?

Are we sure this is the new HC?  No offense to anyone and not to prejudge, but it took us all this time just to get this guy who was available a couple of weeks ago?

Not sure at this point why Patterson would stay….

I don’t necessarily think that Patterson being a lead recruiter for some of the guys on the team is necessarily a point in his favor. It just means he had a big part in building some pretty bad teams. Moore and Gray are good, sure, but the team overall wasn’t. Also, Moore and Gray are not surefire stars. They have great potential, yes, but they aren’t so important that the decision of who the next coach is should revolve around them.

There were obviously a lot of missteps in the process and a plan wasn't in place.

Barnett is young but has been around success.  Hopefully the new coach brings some fresh energy and hope to the program.

Give the guy a chance. He is having to work against many things and believes he can turn the program around.

Kudos to him!

Yes OT, sorry if I was judgmental in tone about this guy, but it was/is kind of a surprise.  I am still not sure why it took all this time to come up with this guy as WVU’s season has been over for a couple of weeks and their HC has been gone for just as long.  I would still love to hear about the “process” we went through to get where we are, however I know that will never happen.  In the end, my faith/trust in the AD/President/Board has diminished somewhat, but that is my problem and no one else’s.  I too want our program to succeed.  However, I do question the level of commitment the University has to athletics.

If it makes you feel any better, it's my problem too. 😉
