TrueBlue82 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Crossings Christian basketball guard Cal Furnish has announced his collegiate decision. Furnish committed to Oral Roberts' 2025 recruiting class on Monday, choosing ORU over the likes of Buffalo, Vermont and Drake. The 6-foot guard is a three-star prospect and the state's fourth-ranked 2025 basketball recruit according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Cal Furnish, Crossings Christian School Boys Basketball, is pictured during The Oklahoman’s media day in Oklahoma City, on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023. Furnish helped lead Crossings Christian to the Class 5A state semifinals as a junior, averaging 15.6 points, five assists and two steals. Following his breakout junior year, Furnish was named to The Oklahoman's Super 5 second team and Big All-City first team. 1
TrueBlue82 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I have a hard time getting terribly excited about a 6 foot, 170 pound high school guard. But, maybe he's Max Abmas 2.0 (we can only hope!). 1 1

Eaglefan 21 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Looks like we have two 3 Star freshman point guards coming in next year. I watched a couple of clips of Cal and I like his game. Most of the write-ups about him talk about his pass first mentality. Seems like it's been a while since we had a pass first point guard. 1

Keenan Henderson Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Remember ORU now has 15 scholarship opportunities beginning this recruiting class, so they can afford to hit and miss with a few guys, but I hope Cal is a hit! Cal was listed as a standout at Peach Jam and hit about 45 percent from 3 and had 26 assists to only 6 turnovers. He reminds me of Trey Phippis.
ORUJason Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I have heard great things about Cal and his family. Sounds like he will be a great fit for ORU. I have heard that he has all the tools to be a very successful guard at the D1 level and if he had been a few inches taller he would have likely had a large number of options from which to choose. Also, Luke Spencer Gardner was a great pass-first PG in the annals of ORU history. 2
theeagleman5 Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Hope Cal works out...ORU needs a pass first PG badly.......Trey Phipps....a controversial guy on this board for sure....is he still playing somewhere or now selling insurance?? Which is what this guy should be doing......

Trey is finishing up his college career on the hardwood of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah - just like his dad. He should do well down there and be a big upgrade in their pursuit for a D-II championship. 2
Keenan Henderson Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Trey led NSU with 16 points vs TU last week. Not a star but had some moments at ORU, putting in around 5 points per game. Still like him because he played very hard and gave his all. 2
2014Grad Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Honestly while frustrating, any Trey “hate” is probably better directed at the coaching staff for putting him in minutes or situations where his skillset didn’t suit the need (defense, bigger lineup, attacking the basket etc). Dude always played hard, seemed to be a positive influence on the team and tried his best. What more can ya ask? Glad he’s doing this thing at NSU! 1 3

titansforever Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Here's a recent article on Cal: ORU signee Cal Furnish is a rare 4-year standout at TofC | Barry Lewis' 3 takeaways Dec. 28, 2024 Barry Lewis On Saturday, Crossings Christian guard Cal Furnish will play in his 12th Tournament of Champions game — a feat rarely achieved. No one will have played or can play more TofC games than Furnish, an Oral Roberts signee, and he has been an impact player for four years in the tournament that is Oklahoma's premier regular-season high school basketball showcase. "It's been a lot of fun, a lot of exciting games, fun games, really good competition against teams you might not see throughout the year," Furnish said. Some memorable moments during his TofC career have included a winning 3-pointer as time expired against Cashion when he was a freshman in 2021 and a win over 6A champion Edmond North in 2022. In the '21 TofC, he helped fill a void after All-State guard Reid Lovelace suffered an ankle injury during the tournament. "No moment is too big (for him) and he's super humble about it," Knights coach Shawn Schenk said. Furnish produced another big game Friday as he had 24 points and six assists in the Knights' 75-46 victory over Okay in a consolation bracket game at the BOK Center. He moved into 11th place on the TofC all-time scoring list with 161 points and is three away from the top 10 as he enters Saturday's consolation final against Dale at 1:30 p.m. Furnish will be playing a lot more basketball in Tulsa after this season with ORU. What convinced Furnish he would be a good fit with the Golden Eagles? "I love Coach (Russell) Springmann and all the coaches," Furnish said. "I really just like the faith-based environment, it's a lot like Crossings, and it's a place I can see myself being at and succeeding." Schenk sees Furnish's game translating well to the major college level. "The thing about Cal is he's an elite passer," Schenk said. "And I think that's the thing everybody notices about him. And he is so good defensively. As a point-guard you've got to be able to stop at the point of attack and he does that, and obviously his ability to shoot and with range." And he showed all those assets Friday morning against Okay — 24 hours after a 63-58 loss to Millwood in a game that Crossings led most of the way. It was extra disappointing for the Knights who had hoped for a rematch of last year's 5A semifinal loss with Booker T. Washington. Furnish helped lead the way as he was 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 on 3s. He had two steals and didn't commit a turnover. "When you lose a tough one, you still play a really good team in the Tournament of Champions, and that's a really good Class A team," Furnish said. "And so we had to be ready, we had to communicate, we had to play together. And I think that's what we did." Furnish had a big scoring game, but his most impressive play was a pass to an open Kaden Laisle, who made a 3 from the left corner as the first half ended for a 34-16 lead. "It's really just taking what the defense gives me and also trusting my teammates," Furnish said. 5
