Keenan Henderson Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 As we wait for ORU's basketball schedule, what do you think of college football's new 12 team playoff? Who might make it? OK State could. I really like it and hope it brings some new excitement to college football. It will never be March Madness but maybe we will see some 12 seeds knock off a 5 seed or 11 seed a 6 seed. I always love those upsets in sports.
theeagleman5 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 OSU does have a good team this year but the Pokes may have their hands full with defending FCS Champion South Dakota State next week....Jacks are still loaded and only a 10.5 point dog on the Vegas line.....Gundy will have his boys ready though....hearing they have helmets with a code on the back where viewers can scan it and donate to the OSU NIL Fund....that's crazy.....how low will they go????....
Keenan Henderson Posted August 21, 2024 Author Posted August 21, 2024 Set your calendars for OK State @ Colorado on ABC as Deion Prime Time and Mike Gundy go toe to toe. Talk about some fireworks, can we get those 2 in a celebrity boxing match? Eagleman how about the Penn State team, they are around your area. You think they have a shot to make the 12 team playoffs and maybe face OK State in the 8 vs 9 match up?
theeagleman5 Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Nittany Lions always have a solid bunch of players and should win 10 games....problem is they still have James Franklin as the coach.....great recruiter and rep for the University but not so good game day coach.....the University loves him but the alums detest him.....he always says the right things but rarely do they win because he made a great call on the field....Happy Valley is the place where top rated QBs come and find mediocrity.....Drew Allar seems to be another one of those....they are not at the level of Ohio State and Michigan and now that Oregon, Washington, UCLA, etc have joined the Big Ten it will get that much tougher... west coast trips not easy and don't be surprised if West Virginia gives them a battle in the opener next week....tough place to play in the first game.....yeah they could make the expanded college playoffs.....almost always a Top 15 team but rarely good enough to crack the Top 5 and that's coaching..... 1
Keenan Henderson Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 Just for fun here are my match ups for the college football playoffs, at the end of the season it will be interesting to see how far I am off. 12 seed Memphis @ 5 seed Oregon with the Ducks winning. 11 seed Texas @ 6 seed Notre Dame with Texas winning. 10 seed Ole Miss @ 7 seed Penn State with Penn State winning. 9 seed Michigan @ 8 seed Alabama with the Tide winning. Quarterfinals: 1 Seed Ohio State defeats Alabama 2 Seed Georgia defeats Penn State 3 Seed Florida State defeats Texas 5 Seed Oregon defeats OK State Ohio State wins versus Oregon Georgia defeats FSU Ohio State is the champion 35-31 over Georgia! 1
Keenan Henderson Posted August 24, 2024 Author Posted August 24, 2024 First match up of the season and down goes Florida State! It may be a wild year in college football. My picks are looking really good after just one game! 1
ORU82 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Just curious, is Midco Sports going to do the NDSU/Colorado football game this Thursday night? After all, Midco is the Summit's go-to platform and is really good, and all you are giving up is a nationally broadcast game on primetime on ESPN for the entire nation to watch. Oh and please note my sarcasm. 2

Oh and please note my sarcasm. Midco Minus doesn't do football games as football is not a Summit League sport. I would expect that the NDSU/CU and SDSU/OSU games would be available on ESPN+ if it isn't on one of the over-the-air offerings. Most broadcasting rights are held by the home team; therefore, you won't see ORU/SMU or other out-of-conference away soccer, volleyball, or other fall sport games on Midco Minus, but can probably pick those games up on the home teams' steaming system.
ORU82 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Thanks Bogus, I already knew the answer, it was my poor attempt at slamming Midco Minus and the Dakotas' apparent love for that platform.
theeagleman5 Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 TheEagleman expects OSU and Colorado to have their hands full with SDSU and NDSU respectively.....the Jacks have won 29 in a row coming into Stillwater and the Pokes better be ready to play.....Bison could upset the Buffs if CU isn't on their A game....my upset special of the week is West Virginia over Penn State....James Franklin will find a way to lose in Morgantown.....definitely take the Mountaineers plus the 8.5.....
ORU82 Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Rumor has it that Morgantown is making an effort to empty the dumpsters and get rid of couches which have been left outside so that when the Mounties win on Saturday there will not be any unwanted victory fires around town. On a serious side, it has been nice seeing Penn State and WVU playing each other last year and this year. Pitt has also been reintroduced into the schedule mix because these three teams history goes back well over 100 years and is rich and deep. The "back yard brawl' between Pitt and WVU should be on each of their schedules every year. Further, for decades WVU, Pitt, Penn State, Maryland, Boston College, Rutgers and Syracuse played each other annually to determine "the beast of the east". Sadly, conference realignments have all but destroyed what was for many decades a very rich and deep seeded tradition. Oh and by the way, LET'S GOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!!! Nothing like sitting in Mountaineer Field with about 60,000 of your friends and neighbors singing at the top of your lungs "take me home country roads". It is an experience, almost heaven West Virginia. 1

Growing up (before I was saved, of course!), it was "Eat Sh*t Pitt" and "What's a Nittany?". Those traditional games, including Bedlam, should always be on the teams' non-conference schedule, if at all possible. Unfortunately, schedules are made years, sometimes decades, in advance and it is impossible to prepare for the conference realignments that disconnect these intense rivalries. And yes, there is nothing like sitting at Mountaineer Field and listening to half-drunk (some fully drunk) students and adults shouting "LET'S GOOOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS!!!" and Country Roads (a song about western Virginia - not West Virginia). It's a bucket list destination for those on the east coast. And who can forget the WVU fight song?? It's West Virginia, It's West Virginia The Pride of every Mountaineer. Come on you old grads, join with us young lads, It's West Virginia now we cheer! Now is the time, boys, to make a big noise No matter what the people say, For there is naught to fear; the gang's all here, So hail to West Virginia, Hail! (this song sounds like it was written in a bar by a bunch of drunks) Football season is about to begin for everyone this weekend - starting with the Tulsa game tomorrow night. 1
theeagleman5 Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 TheEagleman with just a little history lesson/reminder here.....Back in the 70s and 80s Joe Paterno tried with every ounce of his being to form an eastern conference for football which would have included PSU, WVA, PITT, BC, Syracuse, Maryland and Rutgers and maybe one or two others....but it got nowhere and JoePA finally gave up and agreed to join the Big Ten in the early 90s for scheduling and financial purposes.....so don't blame the Nits for what goes on now....I agree playing Pitt, WVA, BC and Syracuse especially are great rivalries for PSU....but can't happen with all these conference commitments....seems to me that it would be a lot more cost effective to be playing more local rivalries but with all the $$$ being pulled in from TV contracts that doesn't seem to be a priority any longer....PSU having to make multiple trips out west now is not a good thing in my opinion....and I hate to see it......but this WVA game on Saturday will be a fun contest and expecting it will be a close highly competitive game that could go either way....I am sure that Coach Franklin probably now regrets scheduling to play in Morgantown..... 2
Keenan Henderson Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 You were right on target Eagleman, NDSU is giving Coach Prime/Colorado the business. I confess that I do not know much about Bison football but they look like they belong in D1, maybe the AAC with Tulsa and others. They are hard nosed tough out for anybody.

theeagleman5 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Nits were surprisingly dominant and won easily at WVA.....looks like Franklin has a very good team this season and hopefully he doesn't screw it up...no really tough games until October when they begin Big Ten play....TheEagleman was also off base on the OSU game....the Pokes handled SDSU rather easily but have a test coming up this Saturday vs. Arkansas at home....still expecting OSU to win by 10......FSU pounded last night at home by BC....embarrassing loss and the Noles are pretty much washed up for this season...sloppy offense and the QB who is now on his 3rd team in 4 yrs is terrible......
