Old Titan Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I hate to see Devin go; he was always a super nice guy. Congrats to him on the new gig.
ORob2 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Devin was exceptionally nice (as so many of y’all were!) to me and my wife during our trip this last February, even got us some court-sides to the Saturday night game. Best of luck Devin!
ORUTerry Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Hate to see this. Devin was always so gracious to me and seemed to care. I am sure he will do well at New Haven.
MrsSmith Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 We will miss their family (his wife worked at ORU as student success counselor). I think they wanted to be closer to extended family.
dbl78 Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 He was a very pleasant individual. Surpirsed he left after a relatively short tenure, assume that he wanted to be the AD again. Tim appears to be good at providing package deals for families. Paul Kabbas' wife also worked for the school during his stint at ORU. I wonder if Mike Minyard would be interested in the position.

Mike is currently an Associate Athletic Director at the University of South Florida, a public D1 football school competing in the American Athletic Conference. I'm afraid Devin's role at ORU would represent a significant drop in compensation, perks, and responsibilities for Mr. Minyard. He has, at this point in his career, outgrown ORU professionally. 1
dbl78 Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 OT - based on a quick review of the USF website, there are at least twelve Associate Athletic Directors, a couple of Deputy Athletic Directors, and a VP of athletics. Mike appears to be responsible for a portion of the marketing piece, so I am not sure that it would be a significant drop in responsibilities or compensation. Upon review, it may be that Mike does not have the experience to assume Devin's position. The one thing which I am sure we both agree upon, is that Mike loves the school, and would give his all if he were hired.

Such a move would be perceived as a step down the professional ladder for a guy his age. I can't imagine he would want that, not to mention the pay cut.

I have no idea if this is relevant to the open ORU position, but I know that many of us are interested in watching Mike’s career growth. It probably should have its own thread, but I’ll post it here due to the connection with the previous conversation. From Mike Minyard’s X account yesterday: Thank you, Bulls Nation! Our chapter with @USFAthletics will come to an end later this month. We'll take many great memories with us. The USF fan base was incredible to serve and made my job fun! We're very excited about what's ahead but grateful for our experience in Tampa.

He could be getting out of the business (highly unlikely) or he could be taking a job in the professional sports ranks (possible, but doubtful, as college athletics has become a pro sport), or he could be moving to one of thousands of other athletic department jobs across the country. The timing of his departure is ironic, but probably only coincidental. Just my take on it for what it's worth.
Old Titan Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 LOL - more proof of "Why I Don't Bet Anymore". It would be awesome if MM returned to ORU - he had great ideas for the future of Golden Eagle Athletics even before his sojourns in Virginia, Tennessee, California, and Florida. He once showed me a white paper re: ORU starting D-3 non-scholarship football that had me convinced ORU could become the Wittenburg of the South. 2

Where is Liberty University?? Agreed, Mike would be great for ORU, but he isn't coming back except for the AD job and that one isn't open (and hopefully won't be for a long time).

Virginians always felt more "Almost Heaven" than West Virginia, but John Denver still wrote about the Virginian Blue Ridge mountains being in WV. Go figure... 1
ORUalum11 Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Mike, I know you’re reading this. Chime in :)
Popular Post orumom Posted August 30, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 30, 2024 Since you asked, our son, Mike Minyard, recently accepted the position of Senior Associate Athletics Director for Marketing, Sales & Fan Experience at UMass, in Amherst, Massachusetts. UMass is a D1, FBS school, rich in tradition with 28,635 students . Big things happening there and he’s excited to be part of it. We are happy to see that each move has helped him move nearer his goals. We are looking forward to a Fall Leaves tour and seeing the Cardinals play the Red Sox at Fenway. His previous jobs, after ORU, have taken him to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, D1, FBS, with 15,500 students on campus and total enrollment, including online is 135,000 students; Austin Peay University in Clarksville, D1, going FBS in 2025, (a suburb of Nashville); California Baptist University in Riverside, Ca (near Laguna Beach & LA) D1 with 11,580 students; and the University of South Florida in Tampa,FL, D1, FBS, with 49,591 students. At each of these universities, he was an Associate Athletics Director, and we got to see a lot of country, visiting him and his family. 6 1
Bogus Smith Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I have to admit, green and red are not in Mike's color wheel. He looks much better in Navy Blue and Vegas Gold. That being said, I couldn't be happier for the lad. Plus, he's married to a gal that knew what she was getting herself in to and is enjoying the ride along with him. Hoping that this step will allow him to move to the next level in his dreams. Good luck, Mike!!! 2
