Otis 83
Interesting...wish them the best. If I can remember @Bogus Smith's roster analysis correctly we are losing our 3rd baseman, SS, and 1st baseman so it would appear there are opportunities next year for these infielders. Maybe just not in Tulsa.
theeagleman5
Adios, boys.....we need some new and improved players all over the diamond......hopefully Coach Folmar and staff are up to the task.....
Bogus Smith
I think it was pretty evident that these players were going to go elsewhere. They didn't see the field in any postseason play, which was indicative of their status - either voluntary or involuntary. I would expect to see more defections in the coming days. I have appreciated seeing them play for us, but know that we need some serious help in certain places to get back to the ORU baseball we are accustomed to. We should be well positioned (pun intended) to take advantage of the transfer portal in the next few months. Some good players are coming off of teams that underperformed in the last few weeks.

dave
You guys who are closer to the college athletics environments may have some thoughts, but I would think that a player who comes to ORU via the transfer portal, especially if they were at a high level D1 program or starred at a JUCO factory, and expected to walk on JLJ and play right away, will rarely stay with us if they don't get playing time. If they can't crack the starting 9 here, they will try it elsewhere. I can't say I blame them because they must believe in their abilities. I just hope they don't keep chasing and never be satisfied. For Coach Folmar, it is just the reality of college athletics. I wish them all well.

Coming back, we have: Jakob Hall, Brooks Fowler, Josh Carvalho, Trent Martin, Owen Reynolds, Hudson Hart, Braydon Sanford, Keaton Ruthardt, Jared Ure, Connor Floyd, and Dalton Patton - all subject to portal defections and MLB draft. We need to get these guys to improve their velo (velocity) and spin rate. We need pitchers pitching in the low- to mid-90's on their fastballs and we need to get their ball movement to improve. They need to be able to command at least two pitches and hopefully three or four of them. There is some talent in this group above, but it is a matter of whether they want to go off to greener pastures or water their grass here and work hard for it. Regardless, if we keep Hall and Fowler, we need to find a top-tier starter, a stopper to take over for Patton after next season (his last), and a couple of good middle relievers - either from the group above or recruited - to handle the needs of the weekend series (a middle reliever for each of the three games). We lose Issacs this year, so we need someone to get in there to replace him. Ure and Floyd have proven to be good in the middle innings and hopefully some of the others can be developed to contribute in 2025, too. For Coach Folmar, it is just the reality of college athletics. I wish them all well. Both of the players leaving came from the JUCO ranks. I would guess that they will land where they can get the playing time that they want. They should try to get on some summer teams and make their connections to be seen there. Obviously, there was a reason that they didn't play here when they thought that they should. We should wish them well at their next station and hope that their dreams are realized. Outside of Alex Rogers (I'm not sure if he has another year of eligibility left or not), there are no D-1 players that have eligibility left to consider a transfer. They come to ORU to play and usually do - although it took Sam Thompson a year from TCU to play regularly.
Old Titan
Back in the early 80’s when I worked as a Sports Information student assistant, I wished I had a button on my IBM Selectric typewriter that would automatically start every baseball season’s prognosis with something akin to this: “The Titans (sic) bring in 10 new players this season, a talented assortment of junior college and high school prospects that should figure prominently with the returning lettermen from last year’s conference championship squad.” Fast forward 40 years, and once again, nothing new is under the sun. ORU Baseball has always had high turnover, due to a preponderance of outbound draftees and graduates. Next year is no different, as the band plays on… ️
theeagleman5
ORU pitching just was not very consistent all season except for Hall and maybe Fowler and Patton in stretches....we obviously need some solid position players and a few .300 hitters but we gotta have dependable arms...3 solid starters and 3 or 4 solid bullpen pieces....Folmar is a smart guy....coach was a catcher....he gets it.... El Jefe 11
Unfortunately, the portal and NIL is making coaches turnover rosters each season. Look at what Florida did with their softball roster. Pretty much a brand new lineup and pitching corps. Edited June 5 by El Jefe 11 Duplicative

I’m sad to see Elijah go and I am also surprised by this. The reason isn’t playing time. I think NIL money can always be a factor but, while Elijah was good, he wasn’t so good that I see a Power 5 team offering him money. Maybe he wants to get closer to home.
El Jefe 11
My bad, didn’t intend to be redundant. Thought Elijah was a good player. Would’ve liked to have seen him be a leader on squad next year.
