Keenan Henderson
What does the group think about the NIL tournament in Las Vegas that will pay teams 1 million towards their NIL fund? It has 8 teams: Houston, Oregon, Texas AM, Notre Dame, Rutgers, San Diego State, Creigton and Alabama. Pretty solid field. Next year it could expand to 16 teams. Now early season tournaments are supporting the NIL.
Popular Post Bogus Smith
I saw this earlier in the year. It would be nice to have a NIL tournament for mid-majors that could pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars, but I doubt that NIL tournaments will be for many other than the big boys. I wish we could afford to put together a regional NIL tournament that would include Wichita State, Missouri State, Tulsa, ORU, Little Rock, and North Texas with two days of triple headers and dodge any matchups that are already scheduled (i.e., TU/ORU and WSU/TU). Would people come to Tulsa to see mid-major basketball and spend money in the casinos, hotels, restaurants, and shop?? Rotate the tournament between Wichita, Tulsa, Springfield, Little Rock and Denison where the host team absorbs the teams' hotel costs but has two quality games on their schedule each year. Plus they are destinations that are easy for fanbases to get to. Proceeds for the games will be split evenly between the NIL programs; corporate sponsors would underwrite the costs and contribute to the NIL fund that gets split. Just a thought...... 2 1

Now early season tournaments are supporting the NIL. Here's a little more detail on the subject. It is changing the way college basketball will be handled in the out-of-conference games and make it harder for mid-majors to get guarantee games if the P4 schools go to these "MTE" events. NIL-driven Las Vegas college basketball event with millions paid to schools nearly finalized; Creighton now in
Keenan Henderson
The winning team also gets another million, so they could make 2 million for their NIL deals. It sure takes a load off the AD, Coach or whoever has to help raise money for the NIL program. This tournament continues to give the Power 5 schools even more advantages over the mid majors. As a fan it will be exciting to see more interesting match ups in the non conference schedule (maybe Houston vs Alabama). So this tournament has it's ups and downs, like most things in life. Keenan Henderson
Kansas State pays transfer Coleman Hawkins 2 Million in NIL money. It is really surprising that K-State has that kind of money to give to one guy, who averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds last year. He is a solid player but worth 2 million? It still baffles me how fast this NIL money has exploded, even in Manhattan, Kansas. I could see big name schools: Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina with this kind of resources but K-State? They have to keep up with KU that is also paying a player a similar amount to play in Lawrence. It's the bidding war that is going on around us. Let's wait until the recession hits and see what happens with these donor dollars.
