INDIANAPOLIS -- Caleb Green scored 25 points and Moses Ehambe added a career-high 22 off the bench as Oral Roberts outlasted Indiana-Purdue 83-73 in a wild college basketball shootout Thursday night.

ORU led from start to finish, no thanks to IUPUI sophomore Gary Patterson, who made a career-best nine 3-pointers on 12 attempts and scored a game-high 27 points.

Ehambe also had a career high with six 3-pointers, hitting several when IUPUI had cut into ORU leads and threatened to take control.

"He made some huge shots for us," ORU coach Scott Sutton said. "He made one that hit the back of the rim and just kind of stuck there (before rolling in). I don't know how it went in. But he's a terrific shooter and he's shooting with a great deal of confidence."

ORU scored the game's first six points and led 16-3 after 4-1/2 minutes, but the Jaguars followed with seven straight points, capped by David Barlow's basket, and it was 16-10.

Ehambe hit a trey and followed with two more -- one with a second left on the shot clock -- as ORU built the lead to 27-12.

In the second half, IUPUI cut a 17-point lead to 53-48 on Patterson's 3-pointer with 16:02 left, but Ehambe answered with a trey and the Eagles scored sev en straight points, pushing their lead back to 12. The Jaguars made it 76-70 on a Barlow basket with 4:29 left, but Ehambe hit his sixth 3-pointer and IUPUI didn't threaten again.

ORU improved to 20-9 overall, reaching the 20-win plateau for the third straight year. The Eagles improved to 12-1 in Mid-Continent Conference play, including 5-1 on the road. Having clinched the league title last weekend, they end the regular season at second-place Oakland (Mich.) on Saturday night.

IUPUI (13-14, 6-7) lost any hope of finishing third in the league. The Jaguars are a likely four or fifth seed in the conference tournament and could play top-seeded ORU again in the semifinals.

If that happens, sweeping the season series from the Jags will come in handy, Sutton said. ORU beat IUPUI 77-66 in Tulsa last month.

"They have good players, and anything can happen, but they'll have a little doubt in their minds because of this game," Sutton said.

Sutton said the win will help rebuild momentum for the conference tournament.
