ORUTerry
ORU Breakdown Tulsa World Link by MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer 1/29/2007 Looking back Home wins over Oakland and Indiana-Purdue stretched ORU's winning streak to nine, longest since Bill Self's last year as head coach in 1996-97. The 7-0 conference start is ORU's best since joining the Mid-Con. The week ahead Thursday: at Valparaiso, 7:05 p.m. Saturday: at Western Illinois, 7 p.m. The Eagles have won only once in 10 visits to Valpo and lost in WIU's Western Hall the past two years. The Valpo game will be the last regular-season conference meeting before the Crusaders join the Horizon League next year. The big picture Has ORU's bench scoring improved lately? By more than five points per game. The Eagles are averaging 22.3 off the bench in conference play, compared to 17.0 in nonconference action. Marchello Vealy and Moses Ehambe are averaging 10.7 and 8.3 in conference play. They combined to score 69 of ORU's 91 bench points the last three games. Are the Eagles also steadier in the backcourt? Junior point guard Adam Liberty played perhaps his best floor game (eight assists, three turnovers) in Thursday's win over Oakland. Over the last 10 games, he's averaging fewer than two turnovers per game. How did coach Scott Sutton react when asked if the Eagles had discussed the possibility of going unbeaten in Mid-Con play? He almost fell off the interview podium after a recent game. He wouldn't say so if they had. Sutton is too polite to discuss in public a topic that might be considered disrespectful to the rest of the league, but you can bet the idea has crossed a few of their minds.
