ORUTerry Posted January 20, 2007 Share Posted January 20, 2007 Turek powers Golden Eagles to home win Link by Staff Reports 1/20/2007 Oral Roberts raced out to an 18-2 lead in the first eight minutes and went on to defeat Texas-Pan American, 68-47, on Friday night at the Mabee Center. Elisha Turek led the Golden Eagles (11-7) with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting and eight boards. Turek now has 1,006 career rebounds, one shy of Vivian Herron's school record. The Golden Eagles defense limited the Broncs (8-12) to 35.3 percent shooting in the first half and forcing UTPA to go 1-of-6 from behind the arc. ORU scored 18 points off 12 UTPA turnovers in the first half. Rachel Watman had the hot hand in the first half, leading all scorers with 11 points. She went 3-for-4 on 3-pointers and 4-of-6 overall from the field. In the second half, Turek scored 20 of ORU's 35 points. The Broncs closed to within 10 after a three-point play by Tiona Wilson with 11:52 to play but could not get any closer. UTPA was led by LeKeisha Gray's nine points. ORU plays on Monday at Centenary.
