Positives:

- We figured out how to rebound again with a 36-14 advantage. Offensive RB even more impressive at 21-2 according to Nealy's stats.

- Mick had 8 assists (I also had him with 10 points on my card).

- JB 3 for 5 from 3-point land with only 1 TO.

- Owens had 9 points and 7 RB's. Yemi got 9 RB (4 Offensive).

- Tutt shot better, but still not up to his standard high level.

Negatives:

-Turnovers: We had NINETEEN!! Monmouth had 8. This is a huge part of our problems.

- Lack of Intensity. We had a lead of 18 (I think) in first half, reduced to 8 at the half. Built it back to 16 only to see it diminished to 5 with 4:11 left to play. We have not learned how to keep 'em down when we get 'em down. We don't have killer intensity.

- Caleb effectively shackled with constant double teaming. 9 points and fouled out for second time this year. His 5th foul was a technical - probably something said out of frustration resulting from the coverage they had on him. However justified it might have been, it wasn't worth it. He sat down and it turned into a four point turnover at a critical moment (cut our lead from 11 to 7).

- We let a guy (Hallett) averaging 4.5 ppg to get 20 on us.

- Larry and Mick had to ease up defensively with four fouls each and Caleb already fouled out. Too many reaching-in-after-you-get-beat fouls. The opposing player actually beats you twice each time that happens.

Not very pretty, but a W.

I think that if Larry and Mickey can stay out of foul trouble and our guards can hit their shots, ORU will be very tough to beat.

This tourney provided a lot of learning opportunities, and I'll honestly be disappointed if we don't beat St. Greg's by 30+ unless Sutton pulls all the starters at halftime.

Anyone else watching the Marquette vs. South Carolina game? Both teams are shooting very well from the perimeter. Not a lot of inside game. With 7 minutes left, South Carolina is ahead 70 to 68.

Oral Roberts 62, Monmouth 54

Nov. 26, 2005

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Ken Tutt scored 15 points as Oral Roberts beat Monmouth 62-54 Saturday for third place in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.

Oral Roberts (2-2) held off the Hawks (1-3) with Tutt's three 3-pointers and Mickey Michalec's 10 points and eight assists.

Jonathan Bluitt added 13, including three 3-pointers and four late free throws to put the game out of reach.

Both teams shot well from the field but the Golden Eagles dominated the boards, holding a 36-21 advantage led by Caleb Green's 10 rebounds.

Corey Hallett led the Hawks with 20 points and sparked a second-half rally when he came back from injuring his ankle while chasing an errant pass. He scored 10 points as the Hawks rallied to within five, 57-52, on a Marques Alston layup with 1:16 to play.

Monmouth could get no closer, as Oral Roberts went 5-for-8 from the free-throw line to finish out the game.

Alston added 12 points for Monmouth.

The Hawks trailed by as many as 19 and went nearly six minutes without scoring in the first half.

They clawed their way back at the end of the first half with a 16-5 run capped when Mike Shipman launched a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from midcourt to trim the deficit to 30-22.

South Carolina has missed a lot of easy lay-ins around the basket....

1:14 left and Marquette has a 1 point lead (77 to 76) and they have the ball.

Overtime. Both teams, especially Marquette, are relying almost exclusively on perimeter shooting. Hardly any interior game at all. Both are shooting lights out. Frankly, not good defense.... both teams are getting open looks.

Marquette wins by three - 92 to 89. They won on an offensive rebound off a missed three-pointer. The shooter was fouled and made the foul shot. Great game.... we should have been there.
