ORU 94, Omaha 90 (OT)

Don't look now, but the ORU ladies completed a sweep of their road trip this week with a 94-90 overtime win in Omaha Saturday afternoon.

ORU is currently tied for third place in the conference standings at 7-4, just a half game out of second place, and with the reverse scheduling from the men they finish the season with 5 of their next 7 games at home.

At this juncture, Kelsi Musick has to be a strong candidate for Summit League Coach of the Year.

Not according to our “good friend” at the Mitchell Report.  His Summit article last week specifically handicapped the WBB COY race.  Shockingly, his “heavy favorite” and “challenger” were the coaches for SDSU and NDSU, respectively.  Musick did earn a mention in the “others” category, AFTER USD and Omaha. Mitchell acknowledged that Musick has created some new energy with the uptempo offensive attack, but discounts Kelsi’s accomplishments since she “inherited a talented roster” (ridiculous).

ORU finished Summit play 10-8 last season, so would likely need to finish this year on a roll for Musick to receive serious consideration.  With three consecutive home games against lower division teams next on the schedule, a 10-4 mark is likely before the road trip to the North Dakotas and the final home series with the two South Dakota juggernauts.  Those four games will not only determine what seed ORUWBB will earn, but also whether Musick has a chance of COY in her first season. Unfortunately, road losses at bottom feeders UMKC and St Thomas earlier in the year will be difficult to overcome.

Yeah, I saw that.  I'm trying really hard to ignore his stuff; it's obvious he has some sort of axe to grind with ORU.  I think it's philosophical and goes far beyond athletic competiton; some folks just don't respect ORU's mission.
