Keenan Henderson
The defense was solid last night, holding Omaha to 3-16 from three point range. I think we would take that every night. Need a repeat performance against a good 3 point shooting team in South Dakota. ORU's defense has been good in conference play, except for the road win at Omaha. eagle88
Last nights game shows how special this years team is. We shoot 22% from 3 and didn’t shoot well overall and still manage to beat a pretty good team. This team has heart and is unified and has enough talent to win on an off night. 2
Popular Post ORUTerry
Random observations about the game against Omaha: Great to see the message board members for a quick visit. Maybe we can arrange a time to have a meal before or after a game sometime in the future. It was nice to see Caleb Green finally honored for his years at ORU. He and Ken Tutt, Larry Owens, etc. put ORU back on the basketball map. We shot uncharacteristically bad last night. Not just from the three point line, we missed lots of layups/short shots as well. It is a tribute to this team’s resilience that we fought through shots not falling to gut out a win. If we make a few of the three pointers and get those layups to fall, we would have won by +20. Defense wins championships. We would have lost this game last year because in the past we relied on our offense. Good teams are balanced and can fall back on defense when shots aren’t falling. Vanover played +34 minutes. As my son remarked, I’m sure that is the most minutes he has ever played as a D1 player. Earlier in the year he was not capable of playing that many minutes. He looked a bit gassed at half time; he played the first 10 minutes without a break - which is not normal. Vanover was the difference maker on offense and defense. Abmas had an off night and at the end of the game did not try to force anything, but deferred to his teammates. Another example of what a great player he is. Thompson was the other difference maker. Timely shots, steals, good defense - he played a nice game. His steal and dunk towards the end of the game was a back breaker for Omaha. Along with Jurgen’s reverse layup.
Keenan Henderson
I hope that ORU does not have to face Omaha again in the conference tournament. The Eagles struggled in both games and had to win two close battles. It is still a long way to go but as of now if Omaha won the 8-9 game then they would face ORU in the quarterfinals. Of course, a lot can change in the tournament seedings between now and then.

Not sure we “held them” to 3-16 3-pt. shooting as much as they are just not good from three. That’s like saying they held us to 22% on 3-pt. They did no such thing - we just (uncharacteristically) couldn’t hit last night.
ORUTerry
Good point… we did a fairly good job of contesting their shots, but they also missed open looks.

Another example of what a great player he is. As a point of clarity and update: Caleb was selected for the ORU HOF many, many years ago. However, due to his playing career overseas he was never available to be honored until he was no longer playing. ORU has the policy, "you must be present to win" and no honoree receives his/her award without coming to the HOF presentation. Fortunately, we made the event about Caleb (as it should have been) and was able to award him is rightful spot in ORU athletics history (HOF) and retire his jersey number (not his jersey as we have discussed on this board many years ago). Even with an "off night" by Max's standards, he rises to third in the national scoring list at 22.0 ppg. It will be close to impossible for him to ascend to the top two spots, but being fifth in 2022 (22.8 ppg) and being first in 2021 (24.8 ppg) puts him in an elite status for his collegiate career. 1
theeagleman5
TheEagleman loves Caleb and glad he has finally been rightly honored...its also nice to see that no one will wear Eddie Woods' #30 again....one of my top 5 ORU players all time.... tmh8286
Came across this meme today and thought it was a great illustration of why Omaha was able to put a scare in the ORU faithful last night. They had confidence that they could beat us. That confidence is a product of great coaching. #CoachCrutchfield #CoachBrown #CoachNiles
Keenan Henderson
This was ORU's worst three point shooting night since the Houston game. As the old saying goes, have a short memory and put this one behind you. Next! 2
