WOW!  That's unusual in basketball (see it all the time in baseball).  It's a great pickup for ORU and will be a tough road game for sure.  Too bad we couldn't make it the middle of next week instead of the week following.  We will have four games in eight days (between the 7th & 14th) with three at home.

Good get for the MBB program!

I would bet the farm that this is all about enhancing the NET ranking from ORU's standpoint:  with "Quad 1" UNM undefeated and carrying a lofty No. 14 NET rating, a road loss won't hurt and a win might mean the difference between a 12-to-13 seed in the big dance, as opposed to a 14-to-15.

This is CRAZY and AWESOME at the same time.  But, this also means that one of the best dates (IMHO) for reschedule of the USD home game is gone.

So, is this a $$$ game, or will we see the Lobos in Tulsa in one of the next few seasons?

It kind of hems in USD in terms of dates for the makeup game. They are either going to jam in a game sometime midweek or tack the game on to the end of the year at their place - or cancel it.

This is a $$$ game and I don’t think we will play the Lobos  next year in Tulsa. What a great opportunity to increase our ranking!

So much for the nobody will play us, so we have to place four Bacone type games...

Actually the very reason this game was able to be scheduled is “because nobody will play us.” Otherwise, ORU would have been maxed out on the number of non conference games and would not have had room in the schedule to add UNM.

That makes no sense. Unless you are telling me that we called New Mexico in the off-season and they declined to play us, but had a change of heart this week.

UNM had a game get canceled this year (NMSU) that they wanted to replace. ORU had well-documented struggles scheduling teams this off-season due to good teams not wanting to play them. ORU had to settle and schedule 1 less game (30) than the NCAA allows (31).

Therefore, because it was such a struggle to find teams that “wanted to play us”, we are one of the few teams in the country that had only scheduled 30 games instead of 31 games, thus allowing this matchup to work.

New Mexico is ranked 22 in the AP Poll this week.  It's always exciting to play a top 25 team.  The Lobos have a transfer we have seen: Josiah Allen from Kansas City.  Should be an interesting game!

sounds like it is a money game rather than a home and home according to this thread.....UNM had two games to replace when their home and home w/NMSU was cancelled in Nov....(these replies are after Pitino hinted yesterday about adding another home game to their schedule)

SHSU is another school with well-documented struggles finding teams that were willing to play them this year. Not surprising they did not meet their 31 game maximum either.

So, SHSU also had "well documented struggles"? With both our struggles being so well documented, perhaps we should have called them?

I wonder how many other schools have well documented struggles? Maybe we should google their phone numbers? I mean, Yale has an opening, too.
