Dr. Cornelius
Turner Broadcasting which holds ownership of Tom & Jerry, Hanna-Barbera, and other classic cartoons will begin scouring it's archives to remove scenes containing smoking. http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?storyID=2006-08-21T181228Z_01_PAR147291_RTRUKOC_0_US-TOMANDJERRY.xml
tmh8286
Kind of reminds me of the ancient Egyptians expunging all record of the captivity of the Children of Israel . . . If we erase all traces of smoking everywhere, then it never existed.
Dr. Cornelius
Smoking is a bad habit to get into but I hardly see the need to go back and cut scenes where Fred and Barney light up at the old Water Buffalloe Lodge. Quite silly when you consider how the Flintones started out shilling for Winston.
MadAdder
Yeah, I could see the point of not having cartoon characters smoke from now on (ie, cartoons made from this point in time and beyond), but I think it's ridiculous to go back and edit that out of cartoons that were made years ago. What's done is done, and I'm not really for "Photoshopping" history to make it look pretty today.
ORUTerry
Sounds way too much like George Orwell to me.
tmh8286
Ted Turner has already "colorized" many great old movies. Now maybe he can complete the distruction of the Hollywood classics in his possession by making them "smoke-free" as well.
