My Thoughts on World Cup Soccer

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought soccer was super lame, until I saw the World Cup this year. I'm definitely a fan now. Don't get me wrong, I won't follow the MLS and I won't fork out mucho bucks to get any extra soccer channels from DirecTV, but I definitely like the international appeal to the game. I was in New York for a week this summer and a friend and I went to Little Italy the day that the US and Italy played in the World Cup, and it was a sight. People playing soccer in the street afterwards and everything. And then I went to a Brazillian bar one of the days when Brazil played. I'll tell you, people went crazy when Brazil scored a goal. Definitely more excitement even than when I'm watching a Buccaneers game with some friends down in FL and Cadillac Williams scores a touchdown.

I'm definitely more of a fan after watching this year's World Cup, and I understand why the world gets so excited about soccer.

Nice to see a new fan of soccer!  I will say this for the MLS they are trying to bring in some big names from the soccer world i.e. Ronaldo (Brazil)  Zinedine Zidane (France headbutter probably won't happen now) Pavel Nedved (Czech Republic)  at least that might bring some excitement to the league having some of the top stars (in their latter years) but still the big names help.  Yea MLS has a long way to go and the best they can hope for is to get soccer fans to start watching and they aren't doing very well at that.

I think I read on ESPN a couple different times that Ronaldo and David Beckham said they'd consider playing in the US towards the end of their careers, which I guess would be in the near future. If that happened I'd probably go to see a game if either of them came to play in L.A.
