Bogus Smith
Below is a link to the Clemson site for the picture gallery from Game 1. Page 1 only shows some good ORU pics. The rest are of Clemson plays and players, but thought there may be some interest by some. http://clemsontigers.cstv.com/sports/m- ... 06aab.html
Bogus Smith
Clemson vs. Oral Roberts Clemson Super Regional - Clemson, SC June 9, 2006 Clemson Head Coach Jack Leggett Opening Comments "It was an epic battle, there's no question about that. They came out strong and did some good things early. We didn't quite get into the flow of the game until about the third inning or so. We didn't play great defense and weren't on the mark pitching-wise early. I thought some good things happened when P.J. Zocchi came in; he calmed things down for a while. David Kopp came in and did exactly what he had to do in the situation, which was get a double-play ball. Daniel Moskos did great in the first inning, but they got to him a little bit. We just battled back. Every time they scored, we answered. We showed some great toughness today. They did too; they're a very good team." Clemson Left Fielder Tyler Colvin On the walk-off grand slam "He (Sean Jarrett) threw a slider and he left it up. I was just going up there to try and hit the ball hard and hopefully find a hole. Luckily, I just hit it over the fence. It was pretty exciting, that was my first walk-off hit." On whether the last week has been the best of his life "One more win and I'll be happy." Clemson Designated Hitter Herman Demmink On his first-inning home run "The adrenaline was flowing pretty well after the home run. The pitcher tried to come in but didn't get it far enough in. I got around the bases pretty quick and my emotions got ahead of me. I should've saved the jump (onto home plate) for Tyler Colvin for the walk-off. It was a good swing and it got us started." On Clemson's ability to bounce back "It shows the character of this team. We've prepared as best we can. Coach Leggett tries to instill in us that whatever happens, the game is not over until the last pitch is thrown. Somehow we found a way to get some runners on base. (Brad) Chalk did a great job beating that ball out. Tyler came up, found himself a good pitch, and put a good swing on it." Clemson Right Fielder D.J. Mitchell On getting the clutch hits "We just tried to put the ball in play and let it do all the work for us. We were lucky in that it fell our way. We battled all the way and I'm just glad to say we came out with a win. One more to go and we'll all be pretty happy." Oral Roberts Quotes Head Coach Rob Walton Opening Statement "I don't think either team was really sharp today. (Clemson's) guy gets nicked up on a play at first. Our guy is unhealthy and just trying to give us what he can. That's about as poorly as we've pitched since about the few three weeks of the year. We just hung breaking ball after breaking ball and that cost us. We showed some heart and character offensively, which we've done all year." On Sean Jarrett "Today was probably Sean's last bad outing since he started a game a while back. Maybe he was due. Whatever reason, every guy that went to the mound seemed like he could not get the ball down. We'll need to address that tomorrow." On pitching overall "We had other opportunities earlier to score runs and do some things, but we just struggled today on the mound. If we were to do it again, I would run the same guys out there in exactly the same way. We just didn't execute, and that's the way it goes." On being down 1-0 in the series "I like our club. I think we're special. It will be hard to take two in a row from us. We had a poor day on the mound today, but it doesn't mean we're going to do again that tomorrow. I believe in my club; I think we're a team of destiny. I believe our guys can go out and compete and win." Jake Kahaulelio, second baseman "Our team never gives up. When Clemson went up in the ninth, all of us position players had confidence in Sean Jarrett on the mound. He is usually unstoppable. Like Coach Walton said, it might have been his turn. We also had a lot of chances early in the game to score, so you can't blame it on one person. We lost as a team." Chad Rothford, first baseman On being pitched to in the ninth inning "I wasn't surprised that they pitched to me, because, my first at-bat, the pitcher went right after me and struck me out on a fastball away. In the ninth, (Moskos) went down with a change-up and away with the fastball. I had the green light with a 2-0 count. I was just looking for something in the zone. He left something over the middle and I just tried to put it in play the best I could."
