Green Earns Second AP All-America Honor

TULSA?Oral Roberts University men's basketball standout Caleb Green was named to the Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America Team for the second consecutive season, the AP announced Monday.

Green, who captured his second consecutive Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year award earlier this month, enjoyed a stellar junior campaign. The 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward averaged 20.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in helping lead ORU to a share of the Mid-Con?s regular-season title, the Mid-Con tournament title and the school?s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 22 years. In ORU?s first-round loss to regional top seed Memphis, Green scored a team-high 19 points, adding four rebounds and three assists in a 94-78 loss.

ORU finished the season with a 21-12 overall record, its second straight 20-win season. Since Green joined the Golden Eagles for the 2003-04 season, ORU is 63-31 (.67) with two Mid-Con regular-season titles, and NIT appearance and trip to the NCAA Tournament

Green led the Mid-Con in scoring and rebounding, the first player to do so since Illinois-Chicago?s Sherell Ford in 1993-94. Green led the nation for much of the season in free throws made (235) and attempted (308) ? breaking both of his own school records ?finishing second to Gonzaga?s Adam Morrison in both categories. Green also led the Mid-Con with 15 doubles.

With three outstanding seasons under his belt, Green will enter his senior season poised to assault both ORU and Mid-Con record books. With 874 career rebounds, Green is on pace to shatter the current league mark of 910, while also becoming just the third player in ORU history to reach 1,000. Green has scored 1,805 career points and should easily become the just the fifth player in school history and the ninth in Mid-Con history to reach 2,000 points.

Green is the first ORU player to earn back-to-back AP All-America honors since Mark Acres did it four straight seasons from 1982 to 1985.

I was feeling like Caleb got slighted until I actually read the lists. Other honorable mentions were: J.P. Batista, Gonzaga, Darius Washington, Memphis; Marcus Williams, Connecticut.

Congratulations Caleb!!!! It's wonderful to see him listed with those other outstanding players.

Did you notice that there isn't a single player on the first and second All American teams that is playing in the final 4? In fact, LSU's Glen Davis is the only player on the third team that is in the final 4!

Who would have thought??

I think I sometimes lose sight of what a special player Caleb Green is. ORU is very blessed to have him. I suspect that we will see his jersey hanging from the Mabee Center one day. I know we will miss him when he leaves.

We are proud of you Caleb!

ORU's Green gets mention

By MIKE BROWN World Sports Writer

3/28/2006

For the second straight year, Oral Roberts forward Caleb Green has received honorable mention on the Associated Press All-America team.

"This is a great honor for Caleb," said ORU head coach Scott Sutton. "But I would hope people around the country would take note of what kind of career he's had."

Sutton said his two-time Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year warranted preseason All-America consideration before his senior year.

The 6-foot-8 junior was among 47 players on the AP Honorable Mention list, which also included Texas' LaMarcus Aldridge, Arkansas' Ronnie Brewer, Memphis' Darius Washington and Texas Tech's Jarrious Jackson.

The team was announced Monday.

"It's amazing how many good players didn't make one of the first three (All-America) teams, but I would hope with Caleb getting this recognition, people would mention him on one of those first three teams next year," Sutton said.

Green averaged 20.8 points and 8.8 rebounds, leading the Golden Eagles to a Mid-Con regular-season title and the school's first NCAA Tournament berth in 22 years.

ORU is 63-31 with two conference titles since Green's arrival in 2003.

With 1,805 career points, Green is on track to become the ninth man in Mid-Con history with 2,000. He has 847 rebounds -- on pace to break the conference record of 910 early next season.

Green broke his own school and conference records for free throws made (235) and attempted (308). He led the nation for much of the season and finished second to Gonzaga's Adam Morrison in both categories.

Green became the first ORU player to receive back-to-back AP recognition since Mark Acres did it four years in a row (1982-85).
