P.S.  Jurgens shoots too many bad shots, and at the worst possible times.

And, ORU should have fouled on USD's last possession and up by 3.  The Yotes got a wide open look from out top to tie with a couple of seconds to go, but just missed it..

That's not good coaching, that's just plain luck.

I have to agree with you on fouling on that last play but Jurgens had the best game I have seen out of him tonight. Handled the point and played more in control with 6-12 shooting and many times slicing to the basket. I believe he is doing much better. Just my opinion. Obanor and Weaver do not play like freshmen. Obanor is a beast.

The shot he took with ORU up-3-with-30-seconds-left was TERRIBLE.  Drove baseline without a plan; got hung up behind the backboard; threw up a brick.  In that situation, you MUST get a high-percentage shot and/or get to the line!

Then, after USD inexplicably rushed a "2" just a few seconds later, he short-armed the front-end of a 1-and-1 that could have given ORU a 4-point lead to ice the game.

Again, a LOT of luck figured into ORU keeping that 3-point lead in the last minute.

But, on the brighter side:  Obanor is an absolute beast, Weaver is learning to go to the hole when defenses run out on him on the arc, and Jurgens did do a capable job handling the ball out top.

He just needs to quit forcing bad shots and let the game come to him naturally instead.

Impressive performance by the Freshmen.....these guys are the future and likely also the present....if E-Man has a high ankle sprain as it sounds like he might....well, he's gone for maybe a month or longer.....31 for Obanor and 24 for Weaver....that's just amazing....not a bad SD team that ORU beat tonight....TheEagleman didn't see the game but sounds like the Coyotes' coach is a real tool....he got what was coming to him.....Good Guys now 4-2 in the Summit with a winnable road game at Denver on Sunday evening....GO BLUE!!!.....:circle-logoi:

Lots of good individual things from a hard game to watch. Jurgens has some game going to the hole and he cleaned up some of the bad passes. "Beast" is great description for Obanor, he rebounds relentlessly and played under control after picking up his 4th foul. Weaver continues to impress, he's got around 55 three pointers on the season and he will continue to improve. His steps are so long and his opponents are so much shorter then him that when he drove to the rim, I think he surprised himself at how little the defense could contest his shot. Excited to watch these young guys grow and improve!

The second T was well-deserved:  the USD coach waited calculatedly after the first technical until the official handed the ball to Obanor to shoot the free throws, then started going nuts right as Obanor started his shooting motion.  The referee did not hesitate; it was a bush-league move by the first-year coach.

Was frankly surprised there was no one from ORU Athletics, Mabee Center staff, or security personnel to escort the coach from the floor after the ejection.  He lingered far too long extracting his pound of flesh from the officials after getting the boot, then walked unaccompanied at his own pace through the West Vom.  Any other arena, and that exit might have resulted in stuff being thrown at the coach, vulgarities being shouted etc.

"Back in the day..." (lol) we had an off-duty Tulsa Police officer behind the scorer's table next to the opponent's bench for just such occasions, to prevent any altercations between the opposing bench and the fans in the first couple of rows, to break up any serious physical altercations involving anyone on either team or the refs, etc.

I did not see anyone in that role tonight.  Did anyone else?

No and it made things a bit awkward. The game couldn’t continue until he left, but he just got to hang out for several moments until he felt ready to go. It seemed like his staff was looking around waiting for someone to come escort him out, but nobody came.

I was encouraged by how they played as a team again last night.  I have been so used to the last couple years fielding a team that didn’t look like they knew what they were doing.  I am encouraged to see individual player development and overall team improvement, on both offense and defense.

Obanor and Weaver are stepping up offensively.  Juergens scored some important buckets by driving aggressively to the rim.

The team did not fold when Nzekwesi hurt his ankle, or when the refs opened up the 2nd half calling a completely one sided game favoring USD.  I think at one point they had called ORU for 15 fouls vs  3 fouls on USD.

They stayed mentally strong when Obanor picked up his 4th foul and Kerwin stayed out of the fray when Udume picked up the technical foul.

These are signs of a coaching staff developing some discipline and basketball IQ in their players.  On USD’s next to last possession, Mills switched it up and went man to man after the zone had broken down on the previous few possessions, and USD looked unprepared and missed their shot.  That is good coaching.

No doubt there is room for improvement, but these are the type of close games we used to win when we had good teams, but we have recently grown accustomed to losing.  I feel that the turnaround has begun.  Of course, if Nzekwesi is out for awhile, we will need Obanor, Weaver, and others to step it up offensively.

Any info on the ankle injury to Emmanuel???.....doesn't sound promising from what's been described.....that's a killer if ORU loses our star PF for several weeks or longer.....😲

I have to admit that I don’t think I have ever seen a player shoot 6 straight free throw attempts like Obanor did toward the end of the 1st half due to the shooting foul and 2 technical fouls.  He made 5 of those 6 attempts to go along with a great night for him from the line and from the field.
