ORUParentLurker
Kearns hurt his shoulder diving for a loose ball last Saturday. I don't know the diagnosis but he was clearly in a lot of pain.
Old Titan
Point guard situation has reached critical mass. Fuqua: out for the season Milton: out for the season Kearns: out for ??? Not sure what anyone expects while Kearns is shelved, but the cupboard is pretty bare right now when it comes to who can spell Malone, who is overmatched in many ways as it is. The result in the interim is guys like Saunders and Jurgens given the task of running the offense and creating opportunities for their teammates, and that's simply not in their DNA. Not to mention what it means on the defensive end. Similar final score Saturday afternoon, though via a different route with Daum & Co not relying so heavily on the threes. 90-65 sounds about right, maybe 90-70. And then, who knows until Sam returns? ORUTerry
I was at a work event and missed the game. Not a shocking outcome especially without Kearns in the lineup. My observations from the stats, etc. We shot okay (47.5% and 36.4% from 3-pt) but that is not going to beat Fort Wayne. They shot 52.3% and 50% from 3-pt. I guess our length on the perimeter didn’t bother them. 5 of 11 from the free throw line is pathetic. How many of those were the front end of one-and-one? Our 11 free throws seems low. We either were just relying on jump shots or not getting calls. Doesn’t matter because we can’t make free throws The absence of Kearns is bad. Malone’s stat line (6 assists and zero turnovers along with 4 rebounds) is good. But the fact that he took 10 shots (made 4) indicates that they sagged off him to double EMan or Obanor. Saunders and Jurgens did not help. Too many (18) turnovers - again. Our post players (Smith, EMan and Obanor) contributed 4 each. Coach Mills indicates that a lot of these came out of double teams. We have got to value the basketball. We only forced Fort Wayne into 6 turnovers. That is a negative 12 in possessions. We outrebounded Fort Wayne 33 to 24 - or 36 to 28. There are actually three different sets of figures for rebounds; not sure why that is. We did a good job on the boards but effort was negated by the turnovers
