theeagleman5 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 The 2018 tournament for the automatic NCAA bid gets underway on Wednesday afternoon at JLJ with NDSU vs. WIU and then SDSU vs. ORU in the evening. While our guys are the heavy favorite as usual....TheEagleman doesn't think that it's as automatic as in the past that ORU sweeps in 3 games.....ORU pitching looks pretty solid but our bats have been inconsistent and no sure thing that we can score a lot of runs this year.....as always, winning the first two games in this format is huge and means that somebody has to beat ORU twice in a row in the finals to advance....let's see how it goes but hopefully by Saturday we will be looking forward to the NCAA Selection Show on Memorial Day.... 1
ORUalum Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 agree with Eagleman, this could be the year that someone else breaks through. ORU's offense is down a bit and the league seems to have better starting pitching. however, on the upside, ORU has been fantastic at home in league play. --------- The Bizon are carrying their momentum from last week into the tournament......
ORUTerry Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Stockert is their (NDSU) ace.... and WIU pitched Dunne - their ace. 1
theeagleman5 Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 NDSU has won 8 straight games....hottest team in the tournament....glad to see they used up their ace and he won't be available IF/when ORU plays them tomorrow night......
ORUTex Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Is there a rain delay in Tulsa? D1 baseball now says 8:30 Central starting time.
ORUalum Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 big swing from Cal Hernandez.....followed by a Cummings 2 run bomb. ORU almost squandered a bases loaded no outs situation. 6-1 through 2 innings
theeagleman5 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 TheEagleman is Stunned that Ausua got hammered tonight....but Larkins has come on and calmed things down...11-6 ORU in the home 7th....big nights at the plate for Hernandez and Cummings...
theeagleman5 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 We head to the 9th with ORU up 13-8 on the Jacks in quite a first round slugfest where the first 3 hitters in both line ups are a combined 16-25 tonight....lol...
theeagleman5 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 Good Guys win 13-8 on a 6 RBI night for Cal Hernandez....next up will be NDSU tonight after WIU and SDSU in an elimination game....
theeagleman5 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 I guess playing into the wee hours of the morning didn't bother SDSU this afternoon....the Jacks eliminated WIU, 8-3 and will await the loser of tonight's ORU-NDSU matchup on Friday night.....the winner tonight gets a day of rest and then the Championship game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon with a 2nd game played afterwards if necessary.....Go BLUE!.......
theeagleman5 Posted May 25, 2018 Author Posted May 25, 2018 Sixth inning and ORU trails NDSU, 3-1.....we only have four hits and have trailed since the Bison put up 3 in the bottom of the first....time to get those bats going.....
theeagleman5 Posted May 25, 2018 Author Posted May 25, 2018 ORU has rallied with a 5 spot in the 7th to come from 4-1 down...it's now 6-4 for the Good Guys in the 9th...we are the visiting team tonight and need just 3 more outs to advance to the finals...Stout is on to try and get the save.....
theeagleman5 Posted May 25, 2018 Author Posted May 25, 2018 Comeback kids get it done....ORU very tough to beat at JLJ especially in the Summit Tournament....we are in the drivers seat with tonight's 6-4 win.....Cummings had a pair of hits including a HR and 2 RBI....but the winning run actually scored on a walk to Keizor….McGregor went the first 6 innings giving up all four runs but Varnell held the fort with 2 scoreless innings and Stout got the 3K save...….So ORU now off until Saturday afternoon while SDSU and NDSU battle tomorrow night for the right to play the Golden Eagles....they will have to beat us twice on Saturday which is a very tall task....McMinn should get the ball for ORU now 37-18.....
