First-weekend bonanza for AAC

Know this: Local NCAA Tournament organizers had reason to launch some high fives Sunday evening as they saw the roster of teams headed to Dallas tumble forth.

Reason: Most of the AAC-bound schools are good travelers. And you better believe that matters.

First out was Memphis, whose fans own a rep for liberally logging the frequent traveler points. Then came Oral Roberts, which travels well for a smaller school. Translation: Officials here won't worry about them returning any of their allotment of tickets.

Then came Arkansas. Merry Christmas! The RVs are headed this way and tickets are sure to be scarce, officials knew then.

And all that was before UT was officially assigned to do its NCAA hooping over on Victory Avenue.

In the competitive world of event procurement, quick sellouts matter. And AAC has about 20,000 seats. It may not seem so, but there can be a measurable amount of difficulty in selling out a 20,000-seat arena compared to an 18,000-seater.
