oruvoice Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 To think where this program was a few years ago, this is quite amazing!
ORUTerry Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Quite an accomplishment. Good wins this weekend on the road
TrueBlue82 Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 This is really nice recognition, but I'm not yet "sold" on the long-term prospects for this team. ORU has earned consecutive 2-0 victories to start the season, but were significantly out-shot in both games, 18-7 at Incarnate Word and 22-3 against Sparty. ORU may have incredible goalkeepers, but conventional wisdom would say that the law of averages will eventually catch up when opponents take four times as many shots. Hopefully I'm proven wrong this weekend with two roadies in the Pacific Northwest.
ORUTerry Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Wow - that is quite a disparity in shots taken. You're right that eventually the shots will score. Wonder how accurate the statistics are? Seems incredible that we scored 4 goals on only 10 shots (combined two games).
theeagleman5 Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Amazing considering ORU was like 4-12 just a couple years ago and we couldn't beat anybody decent.....winning over Michigan State is nothing to sneeze at. Shots in soccer are different from shots on goal....anything propelled in the direction of the net is considered a shot while goalie saves are a different category altogether. However, those shot totals are likely indicative of time of possession which is a huge stat in soccer....if the opposition is holding the ball 2/3 of the time well, that's not good. Sooner or later they will build that up to a goal.....it's correctly mentioned that this weekends' matches at Gonzaga and Washington will tell us a lot about this ORU squad....the Zags are 1-0-1 having tied Bradley and beaten Ill-Chicago....Washington is 0-1 with a loss at Utah Valley......if ORU can get a split out there TheEagleman would gladly take it.....
