TheEagleman has seen enough of Singleton...ouch.....Losing Billbury hurts but as Carpenter pointed out in his post game comments with Bontrager....having Bobby Word in the line up gives ORU that 3 point threat that has been missing most of the season.....if Word gets hot like he was against NDSU........look out!.... :nerd:

Third seed gets us Denver in the first round and (likely) NDSU in the semis, two teams that we have played well against on the road during the season and taken care of at home the week before.

Actually, a win over Denver tonight would clinch the 3rd seed for us, but the Pioneer loss would drop them into the 7th seed, so our first round matchup would be with IUPUI.

We could still face Denver in the first round in Sioux Falls IF: IPFW and South Dakota and ORU all lose at home tonight.  Not likely...

ORU draws IUPUI in the opening round in the 2nd game on Sunday night....TheEagleman thinks we caught a slight break avoiding Denver....would much rather play the Jags....if we win we would play the NDSU-Denver winner on Monday evening in round two.... :nerd:

ORU drew a LOT of breaks in their draw:  no USD in the first round, no South Dakota schools at all until the finals, IUPUI instead of Denver in the first game.

All things considered after the Brookings fiasco, ORU made out like bandits in the bracket.

(and, in case you're worried about the so-called "3-Vs-6 Curse" that was the order of the day in the Mid-Con, the pendulum appears to have swung back the other way in Summit League play):

2000-2001  #6 ORU 73, #3 Youngstown State 70

2001-2002  #6 IUPUI 90, #3 Oakland 84

2002-2003  #6 Southern Utah 66, #3 Oakland 55

2003-2004  #6 Chicago State 70, #3 Centenary 54

2004-2005  #6 Chicago State 72, #3 Valparaiso 67

2005-2006  #6 Chicago State 73, #3 UMKC 66

2006-2007  #6 UMKC 84, #3 Valparaiso 76

2007-2008  #3 Oakland 80, #6 Western Illinois 66

2008-2009  #3 Oakland 75, #6 Fort Wayne 62

2009-2010  #3 Oral Roberts 65, #6 North Dakota State 64, OT

2010-2011  #3 IUPUI 79, #6 Kansas City 55

2011-2012  #6 Southern Utah 84, #3 Oakland 82

2012-2013  #3 North Dakota State 69, #6 Kansas City 58

2013-2014  #3 South Dakota State 71, #6 Western Illinois 50

Yeah, I actually have high hopes for the conference tourney!

Not something I would have said five days ago.

ORU got a very favorable draw...we should be heavily favored in our first game vs. IUPUI.....but let's just take it one game at a time.....this team has been Jekyll-Hyde all season...you never know from game to game what we are gonna get.....honestly, while SDSU should be favored to win this thing....any one of four or five teams could do it if they get hot.... :nerd:

It's not always easy to win the tournament when you are 'supposed to. Remember those Caleb Green-led teams in the UMAC? We lost an improbable game to Oakland and had to comeback against a pesky Chicago State the next year.

UGH....TheEagleman will never get over that 3 point prayer at the buzzer by Oakland to beat ORU back in 2005 I think it was....I still have nightmares about it....and my friends still bring it up at March Madness time.... :|

Yes that Oakland loss from 2005 was devastating.  You never forget a game like that.

As bad as that Oakland game was - and it was devastating, a loss the next year to an upstart Chicago State would have sent me over the edge. If you remember, the good guys were down 10 at half time but came out on fire to win the game. Shawn King made several blocks and set the tone in the second half.

WOW! Forget the Dukes shot. Just got on YouTube and watched the highlights from the next two years, when we won.

Talk about goose bumps.

And a huge, rowdy student section....

Yes, the next 3 years were awesome.

Would have been nice to get a better matchup than Memphis in that 1st round game with Caleb and Larry Owens.  Memphis had some horses that year and nearly won the national championship with many of those same players a year or two later.

An awful lot of credit should go to Jason Nussbaum for the Maniacs during those UMAC years - he was a fantastic and motivational coordinator...

I saw Jason and his wife at the game on Saturday night. I couldn't help but wonder how saddened he was to see 2 maniacs cheering hard during the game. A lot of the original guys, Joey Odom, Chris Hart, Shaun Schaefer, etc still live in Tulsa. It might be time for an intervention.

For information purposes only, of course... :wasntme:

Summit (at Sioux Falls. S.D.)

South Dakota State and North Dakota State finished tied atop the regular-season standings, but our Cinderella here is IPFW. Don’t necessarily consider the Mastodons to cover their Saturday opener against South Dakota, but expect them to win and then come out strong in a possible matchup with the top-seeded Jackrabbits. SDSU will be laying too many in their opener with the Leathernecks, but could cover less than 14, then end up in a nail-biter against Fort Wayne. NDSU looks good for a cover of as many as 5 in their opener with Denver, before possibly facing Oral Roberts as a short favorite in the semifinals. If IPFW can’t crash the dance, then SDSU takes the title game.
