Omaha at ORU

Nice first half for the ladies, a 41-26 lead at the break over the Mavs.

We shot 57% and had only 5 turnovers.

All 8 Golden Eagles that have played have scored.

Leaders:

Vicky McIntyre- 8 pts, 5 reb, 3 blocks

Atoe' Jackson- 8 pts

We're playing confident.  We didn't panic when Omaha went on a run to cut our lead to 3 with 8 minutes to play, we just went back at them, ran our offense and played solid man-to-man defense.

Still a half to go but I'm feeling good about where we are and how we're playing.

Go Eagles!

We win 74-53, beating Omaha at the Mabee for our third straight win overall and in the Summit.

It wasn't as strong a performance for us in the second half as opposed to the first but we had a 15-point lead at the half and still won the second half by six points.

We played team ball and had a nice inside-outside game going throughout.  Our perimeter and post players have come a very long way since the beginning of the season and are so much better at knowing when to get the pass into the post and when to take a longer-range shot.  We're also keeping our post players near the basket more and playing off of them either for shots, passes to cutters or kickouts for perimeter shots.

Our guard play was strong in this game and has been in the last dozen games.

Opponents are having trouble matching up inside with Vicky.  She scored in different ways today- step throughs and baby hooks and off-the-backboard banks from close range, all signs of a polished post player.  And defensively, she's a difference-maker with her rebounding, shot-blocking and presence.  Detti Balla is starting to play the way she's capable of, which has given us a lift when Vicky goes to the bench.  Dorka Balla has become a consistent offensive threat, and teams also have to contend with the slashing of Atoe' Jackson, Faith Ihim and Jordan Gilbert.

We finished 52% from the field while holding the Mavs to 39.7%.  Most of Omaha's shots came from outside.  They went to the line only 5 times.  We went to the line 20 times and shot 85% (17-20).

Some stats:

Vicky McIntyre- another double-double, her 14th of the season with 18 pts, 10 rebs; also had 5 blocks and 2 assists

Dorka Balla- 14 pts

Atoe' Jackson- 13 points

We're 10-10 overall, 4-3 in the Summit, and 9-1 at the Mabee.

Three games on the road are up next- at South Dakota State next Thursday, at South Dakota next Saturday and at Omaha the following Wednesday.  I like how we're playing and hope that we can translate how well we play at home to the road.

Way to go, Eagles!
