The ladies win 70-57 tonight at the Mabee Center.

It was a game that we could afford to not play very well and still win by 13 points.  We were outrebounded 50-46 and 24 of theirs were offensive rebounds.  Some of that was due to them taking long shots (they tried 24 threes) but it was also us not hustling for rebounds as much as we could have.  We also had players in foul trouble late in the first half and in all of the second, and that might have made us a little more tentative and less aggressive in fighting for rebounds.  You never want to pick up your fourth or fifth or fourth and fifth by going over the back or pushing off.

Missouri State shot only 24% overall and 17% from three, which were products of our playing decent half-court defense and their inability to make reasonably open shots.  They didn't score in transition and we did a pretty good job of switching in the half court and stepping out on their shooters.

We shot 43% and made ten more shots than they did, and we took exactly half as many threes as they did but made the same as they did (four).

We had a season-high 15 assists.  Atoe' Jackson had eight.

Vicky McIntyre was huge again (pun intended) and I mean it in a good way.  At 6'7" she just towered over everybody and forced the flow of the game in our direction.  On offense, she not only played a classic post-up game to score underneath but also came up high to the free throw line, passing out of that look to open teammates while also taking and making a couple of jump shots.  On defense she not only alters shots but makes opposing players stop and think twice about coming into the lane to the basket.  If they decide to they often get their shots blocked.  She finished with 23 pts (8-12 FG, 7-7 FT), 12 rebounds and eight blocks.

Another Golden Eagle star was Dorka Balla, who came off the bench to score 16 points, going 6-12 from the field and 4-8 from three.  She was a real threat from distance and on the drive and really kept the Lady Bears off balance with her inside-outside play.

Faith Ihim also gets a mention.  Every time she came off the bench she gave us energy and a spark.  Eight points and 11 rebounds and energy and hands on defense.  Count me impressed.

I'm proud of the ladies for taking care of business in these two games they played at home, first winning the Mayor's Cup over Tulsa with a big second-half comeback and winning a game they should have tonight.  After the tough losses we had at Baylor and Tennessee, we've responded and have been rewarded.  We're 2-2.  UALR on the road is up next, this Wednesday, Nov. 26th.  Here's hoping we can keep the positive momentum going.

Eagles!!
