The ladies sweep South Dakota State 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 in their home and Summit opener tonight at the Aerobics Center.

Sara Pope with a great match, hitting .342 with 20 kills to lead all players, along with eight digs, two blocks and a service ace.

Laura Milos added 12 kills, three aces and two blocks.  Jovana Poljasevic with six kills, four blocks and three aces.  Sadie Schaffner had eight kills and three blocks.  Lucija Bojanjac set the table all night and finished with 45 assists (15.00 per set, which is outrageous).

ORU hit .256 as a team and held the Jacks to only a .111 hitting percentage.

The Golden Eagles went up 18-11 in the first set before SDSU rallied and scored six of the next seven points to cut ORU's lead to 19-17.  The Jacks never got closer as the Golden Eagle attack kept the margin and extended it by one on Pope's kill to win the set.

Set two was tied eight-all when the momentum swung to ORU on a Poljasevic kill and a Milos ace.  The Golden Eagles continued to stretch the lead and closed out the set on a Poljasevic ace.  ORU hit a match-high .367 in the set.

The third set looked to be slipping away when SDSU took a 14-10 lead but two kills and an ace by Pope and a kill by Shelby Cox brought ORU within one.  After some back and forth, ORU took the lead at 20-19 on a hitting error by SDSU and extended it to 21-19 on another hitting error before the Jacks tied it at 21-all.  Pope then scored three of the final four points on kills, including the winner at match point.  She scored seven of ORU's final 15 points to close out the match after the team trailed 14-10.

Nice crowd on hand from what I could see while watching the match on the athletics website.  Included was a visit from the Justice League and some of their super acquaintances.

The ladies are now 7-7 overall and 1-0 in the Summit.  Their busy extended weekend continues on Sunday at South Dakota and Monday at preseason league favorite Denver.  I'm hoping the Justice League will make the trip.

Go Eagles!!
