2014-15 Roster

Yes, eight new players as of now for 2014-15.  I've followed WBB at ORU closely for a long time and this group has some nice credentials.  Five were both OCA (Oklahoma Coaches Association) and OGBCA (Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association) All-State selections this past season as seniors (ORU signed the most All-State selections in the state of Oklahoma) and our transfer, Vicky McIntyre, played two seasons at Oklahoma State and one at Florida.  Their bios are out there, on the WBB roster page on the ORU Athletics website, but here (in no particular order) are some summaries/highlights:

Vicky McIntyre (Redshirt Senior, 6-7 Center, Univ. of Florida, Oklahoma State)- Redshirted at ORU last season after graduating from the Univ. of Florida.  She's pursuing a Leadership MBA and has one season of eligibility remaining, this season for ORU.  Played in 29 games in 2012-13 at Florida (4.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.2 bpg).  Played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Oklahoma State in 2010-11 and 2011-12.  Her 2010-11 stats at Oklahoma State: 31 games, 17 starts, 20.1 minutes per, 11.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg (both second on team), 66 blocks (2.1 per game- led team), 49.5% from the field (led team), 19 double-figure scoring games, two double-doubles.  Her 2011-12 stats at Oklahoma State: 34 games, nine starts, 11.4 minutes per, 4.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 44 blocks (1.3 per game- led team).  Obviously, she's 6-7.  She did practice with the team this spring.  With Sarah Shelton graduated, it looks like a no-brainer that Vicky will be counted on to fill the center position.  If it happens, hopefully we have a guard (or guards) that can feed the post.  Good things could happen.

Jasauen Beard (Freshman, 5-11 Forward, Midwest City HS)- 2014 OCA and OGBCA All-State; averaged 12.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg; chose ORU over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, New Mexico, Louisville, Arizona, Arkansas State, Tulsa and Denver, among others

Jordan Doyle (Freshman, 5-6 Guard, Broken Arrow HS)- The second-leading scorer (10.5 ppg) on BA's 6A state championship team as a senior last season; 2014 OCA and OGBCA All-State; also recruited by Oregon State, Tulsa and Central Arkansas

Jordan Gilbert (Freshman, 5-10 Guard/Forward, Carl Albert HS)- 2014 OCA and OGBCA All-State; averaged 13.9 ppg, 6.8 rpg

Faith Ihim (Freshman, 5-9 Forward, Tulsa Memorial HS)- 2014 OCA and OGBCA All-State; averaged 17.1 ppg, 11.5 rpg

Esther Udoumoh (Freshman, 5-11 Forward, Tulsa Union HS)- 2014 OCA and OGBCA All-State; averaged 10.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg; was Union's leading rebounder as a junior and senior

Jayden Oliver (Freshman, 5-7 Guard, Putnam City HS)- 2013-14 Preseason Oklahoma All-State; I believe she missed time during this past season due to a foot injury but appears to be fully recovered and healthy; also recruited by Central Arkansas and Mercer

Christina Rupp (Freshman, 5-8 Guard, Tucson (AZ) HS)- 2014 All-Southern Arizona Third Team; averaged 9.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg; rated as a top-30 prospect as a senior in Arizona

We have eight players returning from last season, if you also count April Glisson, who played six minutes in the first game of the year against USAO and then was redshirted.  Detti Balla is a proven factor, a senior who is strong on the boards and can break out some scoring every once in a while, like when she dropped 26 on Arkansas a couple years ago.  Her younger sister Dorottya (Dorka) showed some flashes of being a real scorer as a freshman last season, including a 30-point game against Houston Baptist.  Kaylan Mayberry is a defacto starter that had a pretty good freshman season last year, showing true ability to shoot the three and distribute the ball once she learned the system and settled into her role.  Alexus Wilson also had some good performances but was somewhat inconsistent, as freshmen not named Kevi Luper, Jaci Bigham or Krista Ragan are apt to be.  Competition for starting spots and playing time should be pretty high, and there's nothing wrong with that.  I expect we'll face a classic Misti Cussen-inspired non-conference schedule filled with top conference powers with most of those games on the road.
