Old Titan
I knew ORU was having a bad year when it comes to conference play in all sports (especially the men), but I did not realize the true depth of the depression until I saw this: 2013-14 Southland Conference Commissioner's Cup and All-Sports Standings And, before you start thinking the football numbers are skewing things, look closer: every one of the NINE teams that rank above the Golden Eagles would STILL rank above them without their football points. Two of the teams above ORU didn't even earn any football points this year, including D-1 newbie Abilene Christian. And, the absence of men's soccer from ORU's tally really doesn't add up, either: for gender-equity reasosn, all other conference schools that play football either don't play men's tennis or men's golf, both of which ORU plays. The bottom line is that in ALL men's sports this year, ORU has been woefully out of the running for championships, and have instead been either middle of the pack or lower division. Embarrasing stat: ORU's men's tennis team earned a respectable 8 points in the ranking system, making it the second-highest performing men's sport at ORU this year. One problem, though: ORU actually finished in LAST PLACE in men's tennis. They got the points only because just seven conference teams competed in the sport this season.
