theeagleman5
Big game for the ORU ladies prior to the mens' game at SFA tonight....pretty much a must win for us to get into the playoffs....we have to win either tonight or Saturday to have a shot at the 8th and final spot in the Katy....the Lady Lumberjacks are good....ORU will have to play a huge game to win this one on the road... theeagleman5
SFA rocks ORU 72-52....the Lady Eagles still have a one game lead for the 8th and final playoff spot on 3 other teams with one game to play ....they probably will need to win at NW State on Saturday night to make the tournament..... TrueBlue82
Actually, ORU has an excellent chance of winning the 8th seed, even with a loss at NWSt. Obviously, win and they're in. But, if they lose, the Eagles appear to have most of the tie-breaker advantages against the other three schools. With the unbalanced Southland schedule, the tie-breaker procedure is incredibly complex, especially if three or more teams are involved. For the initial tie-breaker, head-to-head doesn't count unless two games (home and away) have been played, so the process compares records against teams that both schools have played twice - and in many cases there are very few such common opponents. For scenario building, I'm going to take a huge leap of faith in assuming that Sam Houston will beat 0-28 New Orleans, so with an ORU loss we would have at least a tie for the 8th seed. And Houston Baptist has an excellent chance to win at home against McNeese, while SELa will have a bigger challenge at Lamar. If ORU and SHSU are tied, I believe we would earn the tiebreaker by virtue of our split with SFA, while SHS was swept. If ORU, SHSU and HBU are tied, it would come down to head-to-head - and SHSU lost single games to both ORU and HBU, so they would be eliminated, and then ORU would get the edge by virtue of its split with UCA, while HBU was swept. I didn't go through all of the other scenarios (adding SELa to the mix) as I believe these are the two most likely outcomes - but it appears that we're in good shape. Still, it is never a good idea to trust the interpretation of the tie-breakers. so just go out and win on Saturday!

TrueBlue82
Fortunately, someone else did all the calculus... From the ORU pre-game notes: NEXT WEEK • SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT • MARCH 13-16 ► Regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game, the Golden Eagles are locked into the No. 8 seed at next week’s Southland Conference Tournament.
