oruvoice
One issue I struggle with is the role of Christians, in regards to being politically involved. It has been my contention that our mandate is not to attempt to change hearts, by changing laws. That the only way to transform our culture is with the Gospel, not by instilling "Christian" lawmakers/laws. Was wanting to get some other takes on it...? ORUalum
since i was tough on OR in the other thread, i'll agree with what i once heard him say. i guess he had received some criticism for not being more involved in politics like some of the other tv preachers. his response was that he was afraid half the country would not listen to him about Jesus if he was political. i personally do not vote, but i'm not dogmatic that christians should abstain from politics. theeagleman5
TheEagleman used to be very politically active and kept very abreast of everything going on in national, state and local government.....but the political infighting between parties over past 10-15 years or so in this country have really taken a toll on my interest....i really don't care much any more....so much BS going on in Washington...it's a national disgrace....back in the day I used to be a tried and true Democrat....not the ultra liberal kind of today but a Humphrey/Mondale type.....then the Clinton mess turned me over to the Republican party where still am today and I would probably be considered a moderate...no Tea Party guy is TheEagleman....but lately I just have lost interest....I still vote in all the important elections but my zest is gone....i think a lot of Americans feel the way I do....maybe our politicians count on us being apathetic.....not sure....I don't have the answers...I just know that our country is very screwed up and it makes me sad..... ORU GRAD
Yes, Christians need to not be involved in Politics so we can let the world teach our children the socialistic principles and set back and not get involved so prayer can be taken out of our schools and government. Anyway, the founding fathers wanted this country to be Godless. Yes, we should not have a voice.

Anyway, the founding fathers wanted this country to be Godless. Yes, we should not have a voice. No need to be smarmy about it. Just asking opinions. Back to topic...do you think it is possible to legislate morality? Do you think that if socialism was rooted out and prayer was legal in schools, that would have an impact for this culture, for Christ? Do you think that would make a big difference? Serious question. Please try to refrain from overt sarcasm.
Dr. Cornelius
The only thing possible to legislate is morality. But no, prayer or the pledge or allegiance should not be mandatory in schools. 1.) Two Kingdoms theology that became popular with Luther has done a lot of damage. The idea that Christians must live in two spheres: a [Christian box] and a [state box] where the state always gets it's way is foolish. 2.) The most popular eschatological view of the American church makes engaging culture difficult. Why become a lawyer, filmmaker, politician, or support those causes when the rapture may happen at any moment?
Dr. Cornelius
Here is a podcast feed of Wayne Grudem's Politics According to the Bible. He taught through his book in 2009-2011 at Scottsdale Bible Church. The feed for his Systematic Theology is also available.
