MrsSmith
Two down, two to go and we are going to the 16th tournament in a row. Go Eagles!
theeagleman5
ORU wins by 6-1....great pitching by Drew Bowen today.....so it looks like we play the winner between UCA-TX A&M-CC tomorrow (they play at sun up Friday) afternoon at 4pm CDT..... ORUalum
SELA wins the nightcap. Sam Houston will have to fight through the losers side of their bracket.
theeagleman5
That is not surprising that top seeded SHSU was defeated tonight....honestly, on Wednesday 7 of the 8 teams in this tournament had a reasonable chance to get hot and win the whole thing...it's really that close in the Southland Conference....not like the old Summit days when it was ORU and everybody else....so now SE Louisiana and ORU are in the drivers seat to meet in the Championship game on Saturday afternoon.....both teams will have lose twice in a row to get knocked out.....and ORU has shown some pitching depth over the past month.....we certainly have a shot to be in the NCAA Tournament for the 16th year in a row.....TheEagleman would not have bet on that back in the middle of April.....these Golden Eagles have shown a lot of guts over the past few weeks.... .............let's see if they have two more wins in them this weekend......
ORUJason
If ORU can make it to the Southland final, and our chances for that are certainly good at this point, then we will probably have to beat either SELA (4 seed) or a depleted SHSU. This tournament is setting up well for us right now. One game at a time!
TrueBlue82
With UCA knocking out TAMCC this morning, ORU's four remaining potential opponents are UCA, SLU, SHSU and Lamar. ORU's record against those four teams in the regular season was 10-2. If nothing else, the team should enter this afternoon's game with a great boost of confidence. The ideal scenario is an ORU win and an SLU loss, which would force our future championship opponent to play the "if necessary" game at 9am tomorrow before the title game at 1pm - further depleting their pitching staff. Go Eagles!
ORUalum
Sam Houston facing elimination is being no hit thru 6...Lamar up 3-1.
theeagleman5
ORU vs. Central Arkansas later this afternoon.....things are looking up for ORU.....even better if Lamar can knock off the #1 seed......
Section A
My guess is ORU will throw Zufall and Central Arkansas will throw Connor Gilmore Fr RHP 3-0 4 Starts 1.42 ERA 19 innings 9 SO 7 BB. Central Arkansas has used only 4 pitchers to include their top 4 guys with pitches of 81, 152 (two games), 97 and 51 . ORU has used 5 pitchers Gonzales (100 pitches), Trujillo (16), Garza (23), Bowen (107) and Giller (30). Tournaments are all about the economical use of pitchers. Hoping for OUR bats to be active today and a win. Preserve pitchers and go to the championsip round in good shape. Go ORU!
ORUalum
Lamar hangs on to beat SHSU 3-1. They lost the no-no with two outs in the ninth.
ORUTerry
I hate it when that happens.....
TrueBlue82
SHSU loss leaves ORU as the highest remaining seed, with an 8-1 record against remaining possible opponents. Also, SHSU should have a decent chance at an at-large bid (RPI of 38), giving the Southland multiple tourney bids again this year.
TrueBlue82
I also wouldn't be surprised to see Senior Clint Green on the mound. He's thrown 40 innings this season - and one-hit Oklahoma State for seven innings earlier this year.
ORUJason
Definitely a lot of parody in the Southland this year. Great news about SHSU. I certainly hope they get an at large bid.
