ORUJason
Bill Glasson came in 6th in today's tournament. Came in 5th a few weeks back. Is currently 16th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings and has made over $400,000 in just 11 tournaments. Apparently he is finally healthy after 25 surgeries. It is great to see a former ORU golfer and member of the ORU Athletic Hall of Fame succeeding. http://www.pgatour.c...lian/index.html
theeagleman5
TheEagleman was just watching the Sr. Players tournament a little bit....great result for Bill Glasson who has had injury problems over the past 20-25 yrs...knees, back and other issues....TheEagleman had to opportunity to meet him at a tournment up near Erie, PA back in the 90's....very nice guy.....glad to see Bill back in contention.....he once had a top 10 in the U.S. Open, I believe....... theeagleman5
After further research...TheEagleman discovered that Bill won 7 PGA tour tournaments from 1985 thru 1997 including the Kemper, Phoenix and Las Vegas Opens....his best finish in a major was 4th at the 1995 U.S. Open where he briefly the lead at one point in round 1....I remember watching that one at Shinnecock eventually won by Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin who came from behind to beat Greg Norman...Glasson shot a final round 69 to finish four strokes behind Pavin.....we can only imagine what Bill Glasson might have accomplished if not for 25+ surgeries including knees, elbow, back and sinuses.....he is now 52 and still living in Stillwater.....certainly one of the Top 10 accomplished ORU grads in any professional sport..... ORUalum
I think Glasson is also recognized as one of the first PGA golfers to embrace weightlifting and strength training. I saw years ago that Tiger even ackowledged Glasson as one of the reasons he began strength training once he got on tour. Of course, old school golfers argued that all of Glasson's weightlifting brought on many of his injury problems. I think he maintains that it extended his career rather than harm it. theeagleman5
Glasson and Dave Barr are the only two ORU golfers in TheEagleman's recollection to have any success on the PGA Tour.....Barr won a couple of minor tournaments and also had a top 10 in the US Open back in the 80's.....but clearly Glasson was the better player....Bill game after my time at ORU graduation in the early 80's but Barr attended ORU while I was in Tulsa....Dave could really hit the long ball.... theeagleman5
After further research.....TheEagleman found that Dave Barr actually finished tied for 2nd in the 1985 US Open at Oakland Hills in Michigan (sound familiar?).......no, Greg Kampe was not in the tournament.....current golf analyst Andy North won the 2nd of his two Opens that year and Barr was in it right until the end just one stroke behind.....Barr bogeyed the last two holes....think about that....if he had just finished with two pars....an ORU man would have won the US Open...so close but yet so far.......in addition to his two PGA wins.....Barr also won once on the Champions Tour.....Barr has also been inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame..... ORUJason
Bill Glasson is tied for 10th at -3 in the Champions Tour event this week at Pebble Beach. Tom Kite is in 1st place at -8. Bill is still within striking distance and should have another nice payday.
theeagleman5
Thanks for the heads up. Jason....TheEagleman will be watching tonight when the golf channel shows the final round of the Champions tournament from Pebble Beach live at 7pm EDT.....hopefully we will get to see some of Bill......he is at -3 which is five strokes behind leader Tom Kite as Jason pointed out.....a review of his 2012 numbers show that Glasson has entered 13 tournaments and has five top ten finishes......he has made $497,000 so far this season which is pretty good for just six months...if he can get a win or at least a few five finishes he has a shot at cracking the $1 million mark.....purses are a lot lower on the Champions Tour than the regular PGA Tour.....winner on the PGA generally win about $1million or more for a single event....On the Champions Tour a winner generally gets in the $250,000 range.....still, not chopped liver......best of luck to Bill today!..... theeagleman5
Glasson has roared out with 3 birds in his first seven holes today to get to 6 under....he is now only two strokes behind leaders Tom Kite and Gary Hallberg.....still plenty of golf to be played.... theeagleman5
Bill Glasson finishes the Nature Valley First Tee Invitational at Pebble Beach in a tie for 3rd at 6 under.....four strokes back of first time winner Kirk Triplett....another nice paycheck for Bill putting over 1/2 million $ for the year....he's going to win one sooner or later in 2012..... ORUJason
Around about hole 14 or 15 Bill got to -8 within one stroke of the lead but couldn't quite pull it off. Still a great effort by the former Titan.
