ORUalum
FULL ARTICLE Mavs don't mind playing moneyball in early going By Rob White WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER (excerpt) Men's basketball, expected to become a second revenue generating source behind hockey in UNO's move to Division I, is already ahead of schedule. The Mavericks have guarantee games with nine schools this season that will bring in $175,000 to the athletic department. For next year the Mavs have already scheduled games that will bring in another $260,000. In total, those numbers are higher than UNO's projections when it proposed moving to Division I in March — which called for $300,000 in 2012-13 and no guaranteed money this season. "There are always expenses you don't anticipate," UNO Athletic Director Trev Alberts said. "So having some unanticipated revenue does make you feel a little better." UNO coach Derrin Hansen began piecing together this year's schedule in March, when most teams' schedules were nearly complete. The late start, combined with UNO's status as a non-counter (playing UNO this season isn't factored into its opponents' RPI, which is part of the formula for determining entry into the NCAA tournament), led to UNO not anticipating any revenue from "buy" games this year. PAYOUTS Guarantees being paid to UNO men’s basketball team for games in 2011-12 Michigan State: $70,000 Elgin Baylor Classic (tournament at Seattle): $50,000 Wisconsin-Milwaukee: $20,000 Colorado State: $12,000 Nevada: $5,000 North Dakota State: $5,000 Northern Illinois: $5,000 South Dakota: $5,000 Missouri-Kansas City: $3,000 Total: $175,000 Note: UNO will pay $3,500 guarantees to five teams for a total of $17,500. Guarantees UNO is scheduled to receive in 2012-13 Multi-game tournament: $110,000 Wisconsin: $75,000 Iowa State: $75,000 Total: $260,000 Note: UNO expects to pay one $5,000 guarantee
Dr. Cornelius
Trev Alberts will be a good AD. Don't understand why Summit teams are paying guarantee games to an incoming member school... but this is the Summit.
